Sacrificial Lamb - Chapter 22

Eddie's PoV -

     I lead the way and enter Dylan's room. My poor baby lays in his bed hooked to multiple beeping machines. We walk over to my son. "Hey, Dylan. This is Michel and Sleeper," I supply. Michel waves and Sleeper is partially formed around his host. "They're going to help us get Vulcan back to you but we need your help."

How will we keep Dylan safe while we take him to Vulcan?

     Venom asks.

I will see if we are compatible.

     Sleeper states before leaving Michel and transferring into Dylan. Moments later Sleeper emerges whimpering in pain before soaking back into Michel.

No, Dylan's body is only compatible with Vulcan. Any other symbiot can not bond to him. Sleeper states.

     "I guess we take some of these machines with us," I state as I try to figure out what machine will work without needing to be plugged in. I find that most have a backup battery supply. "Okay, let's go."

     With that Venom wraps himself around me and uses his tendrils to carry both Dylan and his multiple life support machines. We exit through the window and Venom leads the way with Sleeper following behind.

     Finally, we reach the remnants of the Life Foundation where Vulcan and his symbiot army has taken residence.

Hello, Vulcan. We brought Dylan back to you. Venom states.

     From my husband's eyes I watch as the red spiral dims on Vulcan's head. Vulcan is obviously fighting Knull after seeing his host in such pain.

Why would Knull want that weakling as a host? Carnage growls.

Dylan is no weakling. He may not look it but he is a very powerful host. Knull left Dylan because he knew he was too powerful and posed a threat. Sleeper replies.

     What does Sleeper mean by that? Is he bluffing? Something in me tells me that that simply isn't the answer.

Begone unless you want me to finish that pitiful child once and for all. Vulcan growls obviously still possessed by Knull.

     Venom and I make a move to protect our son but Sleeper is faster. The black and yellow-green symbiot grabs Dylan unhooking him from his machines and runs to a nearby cliff.

Sleeper! What the hell are you doing!? Bring Dylan back! Venom and I rush after Sleeper but Sleeper reaches the cliff before we do and drops Dylan from it.

     We're about to jump off the cliff after our son when Sleeper attacks us knocking us down. I'm surprised to see Vulcan rush over and jump off the cliff after his former host. Sleeper stops his attacks and we both rush over to the edge to watch the scene. Vulcan manages to reach Dylan before he hits the ground. Vulcan emerges from the cliff toting Dylan in his arms. Suddenly, Vulcan splits apart. A familiar small dark blue blob launches itself onto Dylan and quickly soaks into him. A skinny middle aged man is left standing there confused. Finally, a large red and black blob lays on the ground having been parted from Vulcan. The red blob quickly approaches the confused man but Venom takes control and grabs the large red-black symbiot. In a solid motion Venom consumes Knull. I shiver as I feel the large slimy mass slide down my throat and into my stomach. I gag inside of Venom. Sometimes I hate sharing a stomach but at least Knull won't hurt my family again.

     Dylan limps over to us, Vulcan half formed around him and hugs us. Venom partially soaks into me allowing me to talk with my babies. "Hey, babies. Are you two feeling okay?" I cuddle my sons.

I'm sorry dad and papa. I didn't want to hurt anybody. Definitely not Dylan. Vulcan cries and cuddles around his host.

     "It's okay, Vulcan. That wasn't you who hurt me. It was Knull." Dylan kisses his other's forehead.

     I notice Michel and Sleeper standing a few yards away. I open my arms. "Michel, Sleeper, join us. You're a part of the family now."

     They seem happy at the invitation and rush over to us and join the hug. "Dylan and Vulcan. This is Michel and Sleeper. They're your older brothers."

     "I have older brothers, cool!" Dylan smiles and Vulcan purrs.

The other symbiots, now not possessed, stand there confused. Most are half formed around their hosts. My heart aches for Venom. These are his children and yet they despise him. Drake and Donna, as well as their symbiots, sport horrible looking scars obviously from the fire we used to escape the Life Foundation years prior. Carnage and Cletus Kasady both manically laugh as Carnage helps them escape into the dark woods. The young teen with the green symbiot, Lasher, stands confused talking with his other. The kid has a chance at some sort of sanity in this crazy existence we have with our symbiots. Gently, as if worried about hurting his host, Lasher leads the skinny teen from the ruins of the Life Foundation. I wish all of Venom's spawns and thus their hosts the best. Life with a symbiot is incredible difficult. You have to learn to share everything and you begin to question your sanity but it's also amazing. The bond allows for ultimate trust in your other and creates a sense that you never know where you end and your symbiot begins. We truly are one and that feeling is both terrifying and amazing.
