Chapter Five (Edited)

The Baby

Daniel's POV:

I and Felix did not buy a lot of things but I could tell he was annoyed when I dragged him from store to store looking for the perfect one. We picked out a blue, ink and yellow blanket, a pack of wipes and a few diapers and then we had dinner at one of the cafes located within the mall.

I ordered spaghetti and meat ball ( ;), my fav) and a glass of orange juice while he picked one salmon dish I can't remember the name of. My phone buzzed from messages from both my parents and it wasn't even near my curfew. But I guess I should have called them. Am in for a night of scolding when I get home.

We decided that I should keep the baby so that I could have an excuse for my parents. We made a timetable that we both planned to diligently follow unless something happens. It was a timetable for the both which days one of us would get to take the baby home and which one of us will take care of it during school hours. We, and by we, I meant only Felix, planned to take me to school in the mornings and drop me off at home in the evenings. I didn't mind. Who didn't want a free ride anyway?

He dropped me off at home and we bid each other good-bye and he drove off, but not before telling me to be early cause he was an early riser. We would see about that. I opened the down of my house, and saw my parents sitting with my younger sister in the sitting room, watching something on the TV.

"Good evening, mom. Good evening dad". I greeted, receiving a scowl in return. What crawled up their ass and died?

"Where were you?"

"I was out, shopping for a project?"

"Why didn't you tell us?" My mom asked at the same time my dad asked, "What project?"

"I didn't have the time". I answered my mom and to my dad, "Home Ecs.".

"What are you holding?" My younger sister, Lilly asked. I opened my baby that was wrapped in the blue blankie we had bought for it at the mall.

"This is Aiden. My child for the next month".

The next morning, I was woken up early by my stupid phone. I sat upright on the bed, leaning on the headboard and scowling at the said phone. The time read, 7:00am. I pressed Stop on the screen of my phone and leaped off the bed. I turned to see my precious baby sleeping on the other side of my bed.

I opened the pack of wipes, squeezing out the moisture in it and carefully using it to clean its paper back. After I used a bit of baby powder and rubbed all over it, then putting it diapers. It was hard to do in the night as I was very tired and I was trying to wear a bag of flour something meant for a human baby. After a while, I got the hang of it and finally got the diaper to stay on it without slipping off. Then, I went to do my morning routine.

Felix arrived as I was eating breakfast (as usually my parents left without me but at least they left me breakfast). I asked him to join me to which he reply that he already had breakfast before leaving his house. I shrugged and ate my food fast as I watched him move the baby from side to side.

We reached the school pretty early; the time for lessons would begin much later. I asked Felix whether we can go now and show our baby to the teacher, so that we won't come back when everywhere was filled with students. He agreed and we headed for the Staff room.

"Good morning, Miss Berry". I and Felix greeted at the same time, as we handed her the baby that was swaddled in a Yellow blankie matching I and Felix's shirts. We didn't plan it.

"I see you haven't drawn a face for it yet".

"Yes ma, we didn't have time for it yesterday as we went shopping for a few things". I answered for the both of us.

"You boys are also wearing the same colour as your baby, was it planned?" She asked and we both shook our heads signifying No.

"Well, am proud of the both of you. You both are taking this project seriously and I have no doubt you'll be great parents". She said, and then she felt around its paper body. "Is that diaper I feel and baby powder I smell?" she asked. I nodded, feeling a faint blush creeping up both my cheeks. She nodded and gave him back to me.

"I guess you both have named it?"

"Yes. His name is Aiden". Felix answered for us this time; she gave us a nod of approval and marked us on a sheet of paper before telling us that we could take our leave.

We walked around the school for a bit and my hands were getting tired, I brought out the baby carrier I had taken out of our attic the day before (with permission from my mom of course) and put it on. Felix helped me to place Aiden very well in it and we walked back to class together.

The week moved faster and soon I found myself dressing up for a play date Saturday afternoon. I put on blue top and torn jeans with my black and white vans. I swaddled Aiden in a blue blanket and put in a few things in the emptied school bag, such as; baby powder, wipes, pacifier, a bar of chocolate and a bottle of water.

I saw Felix in the sitting room chatting with my father. When the other boy saw me, his face lit up; probably because of me or Aiden. I ignored the pain in my chest as I thought of the smile Felix gave was for Aiden. What is wrong with me?

He walked towards me that dashing smile still on his face as he placed his big hand on my back and motioned for me with the other to move. I waved my father bye with my free hand and walked outside.

He acted like a perfect gentleman by opening the door of the car for me and helping me hold Aiden as I climbed in. he passed him to me and closed the door carefully before making his way to the other side and yanking it open, climbing in and closing it with a bang. I flinched and he sent me an apology filled smile.

I thought we were going to the park as that was the only, perfect- well somehow perfect- place to have a picnic in this town. But we passed by it and I gave him a what's-going-on look, which I very well knew he saw and swiftly ignored. I decided to keep quiet until I saw him pulling into a forest path.

"You aren't trying to kill us, are you?"

"I would never". He replied with a dramatic gasp, using one of left hand to place it on his chest and his right to drive, before going back to drive with both hands.

I decided to trust him and I was rewarded with a beautiful sight. It was absolutely beautiful. A small waterfall flowing into a slowly moving river which reflected the trees surrounding the area, giving it a calming, natural look. The carpet glass ran around the river and that as where he set down the large orange and blue blanket that had the drawing of a large magnolia flower in the middle. It was pretty and kind of suits the environment we were in.

Let's just say the picnic went well, very well.

And also a little bad.

Why?

Because I think I may be crushing on Felix West a bit.
