Chapter 5

Evelyne's POV
I opened my eyes and saw my phone. I just laid there while I waited. I was waiting for the alarm to go off. It didn't though.

Wait.

What day is it?

I looked at my phone and saw it was Saturday.

That makes sense.

It doesn't go off on weekends.

I don't wanna get outta bed.

I sat up and stretched.

"LYN! COME HERE!"

Ugh.

I stood up and started walking downstairs.

"Yeah?" I said as I yawned.

"Glad to see you're doing better Ev."

I rubbed my eyes. When I opened them again, I saw a tall boy with brown hair and baby blue eyes.

"Oh! H-hey Jace! H-how are you?"

"Eh. Dealing with the aftermath of what happened."

"O-oh. Sorry about that."

"Don't be. You didn't ask for it to happen. Hey, is that my sweater?"

"Uhhh. Maybe? I-I can give it back!"

"Relax. You can keep it."

"I have to go do something with Margaret. Can I trust you both?"

"I'm not 5 Brad."

I brought Jace up to my room.

"Thanks for the flowers."

"Oh! So you did get them?"

"Yeah."

We sat on my bed.

"So how have you been?"

"Honestly? Miserable. I have flashbacks, panic attacks, night terrors. You probably think I'm crazy now."

"No. I actually don't. Do you wanna talk about it?"

I told him what happened.

"O-oh god. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry, I didn't tell you I knew. Me and my brother did a lot of digging. We found pictures of him at a party, hooking up with Courtney."

"O-oh. So he left me for her?"

"Yes. I'm so sorry."

"It's fine. I've been starting to see red flags. I knew he got mad at you for looking at me."

"Really?"

I nodded.

"I think he saw you as a threat."

"That doesn't surprise me. Was that the first time he hurt you?"

"Physically? Yes. Mentally no. I should've left him months ago."

"What made you think about that?"

"He started saying everyone's prettier than me. He told me, he's the only person that'd want me."

"That's not true. Someone wants you."

"You think so?"

"Yeah. Everyone is meant for someone."

"Don't you have a girlfriend?"

He shook his head.

"The same thing happened to me. She cheated with half of the soccer team."

"Oh god. That was her?"

"Yep. I didn't want you to go through the same thing I did. But, it happened. I didn't want you to find out that way."

I definitely picked the wrong person.

We just sat there and kept talking. We didn't notice that it was late in the afternoon until my mom came back. She walked into my room.

"Oh! Who's this?"

"This is Jace. Bryce's cousin."

"Oh! Thank you for doing what you did. I'm Kendall."

"Hi ma'am."

He looked at his phone.

"Shit. I gotta go. I told my mom I'd babysit my sister."

We gave each other our phone numbers then he got up and left.

"I think you dated the wrong guy. Bryce never had manners like that."

"I'm starting to think you're right."

Jace's POV
My brother yelled at me for not getting home on time.

"Dude sorry. I lost track of time."

"Whatever. I have to go."

"Where the hell are you going?"

"I have a date."

"With?"

"Maybelle Connors."

"Oooo. She's pretty. Good for you little brother. Where's Kal?"

"Her room. She's napping."

My brother ran out the door. The girl he was going on a date with, lives a few houses down from us. I went up to my sister's room. I saw she was just waking up. We spent the day watching tv on the couch. The next day I got a frantic phone call from Evelyne.
*Phone Call with Evelyne*
"Help! Bryce is here!"

"That's impossible. He's in jail."

*Evelyne's phone gets knocked out of her hand*

"STOP! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

"Claire?! What's going on?!"

"Hey Dominik!"

"Bryce?! What the fuck are you doing?! Leave her alone!"

"Things didn't work out with Courtney."

"Okay so?! Find someone else!"

"Nah. I want Evelyne back."

"JACE HELP!"

"Listen to me. Just drop her off at my house!"

"Why?"

"She's obviously not safe with you! Let's just talk about this!"

"Nah. It's the end of the school year! She should have fun! She's never gone to parties!"

"I swear to fucking god, if you don't listen to me, I'll fucking END you!"

"Have fun searching!"

*End of Phone Call*
"BRYCE?!"

FUCK!

I ran to get my brother.

"Harvey let's go! Bryce took Evelyne!"

"What?!"

We ran to my car and got in. When we got to her house, we saw a window had been broken.

"They're right there!"

I started following Bryce's car.

"Harvey call the cops!"
