Brimstone was tediously selecting agents to bring on the mission to Breeze. The place rings a distant bell in his brain, however he can't remember the last time he's been there. The last time he remembers going he was completely useless so he had opted out of going the times he theoretically could have gone.
However, this time, no other controller could have gone. He was essentially forced to go if he wanted the mission to be a success. He had selected KAY/O, Sage, and Chamber. The other agent was a distant memory that he was unable to pinpoint.
The agent with the most memorable performance was KAY/O (to him at least). He had very little recollection of how the mission had gone, he only remembered specific parts of the mission. He remembered falling asleep when he was the last one left, he remembered failing to do the simplest task that a small infant child could have done. That being said, Brimstone rarely ever succeeded in doing anything except his job at Starbucks. Breathing too, but sometimes his heart couldn't even take that. Nowadays, he pretty much always had to have Sage within 5 minutes of him. Sometimes he wonders if he can get a restraining order and she'll leave him alone for once.
It was rather sad, how much he depended on other people to ensure he would stay alive now. Ever since he had gotten the plastic surgery, everything seemed different. Mostly because it was, but he also seemed off. He wasn't as reactive, he had memory problems, he had heart problems. All of which he had never struggled with.Which is why none of this made sense to Brimstone. His sight wasn't as good as it was in the past. Which accounts for one specific event that happened over the mission.
He and KAY/O were attempting to get onto site when the other KAY/O had thrown a molly. The controller and initiator pair were previously seriously injured from another skirmish. Brimstone had seen KAY/O walk into it and not get up, but Brimstone couldn't tell that he was stepping in a molly so he met the same fate as his fellow agent. Brimstone, now looking back at it, wondered how he was at all useful for anything besides to be a funny joke that the younger agents tell each other about. He's positive that the younger members of the protocol have no clue that Brimstone knows what they're talking about. Which in some circumstances they would be correct. One of those circumstances would be when he has his artificial brain in. Or when he hasn't taken his heart medication yet, or taken his daily nap.
He is aware that the agents, no matter what age, joke about Brimstone taking a nap on the daily. Except for Sage, but sometimes he wonders if Sage actually wants to assist him in getting better, or if she just thinks its the correct thing to do. Which are completely different to Brimstone.Another memory he had from one of the missions on Breeze he had participated in involved the enemy Chamber. One of the agents- he was pretty sure it was their Chamber- had found out that the enemy Chamber was broadcasting the mission. Brimstone, wanting to hear what was going on, pulled out his iPad from one of his pockets. He had struggled with trying to get it to work due to him being a "senile old man". However, once he got it to work he was content. The enemy Chamber seemed to be rather angry, which Brimstone was extremely proud of.
Even though the mission was a failure, he was glad to have made the French angry. That to him, was a greater success than could ever have been achieved in any other mission he had been on.So, when Brimstone got home, he was bored. He had gone out of his office to get some coffee. Then called for Killjoy because the coffee machine didn't work, who told him to call for KAY/O. Brimstone didn't exactly know why he'd be calling KAY/O for this, but he did it anyway.
KAY/O, being a robot built for fighting in wars, also didn't know what to do. The robot's solution was just to go to a Cafè to get some coffee. So, Brimstone- arbitrarily- decided that the solution proposed by KAY/O had a greater success rate than calling for Killjoy. Whom was busy making whatever with Raze. Brimstone was always curious on what they built exactly, but he didn't want to disturb Killjoy and Raze's work so he just never asked either of them. After KAY/O and he arrived to the Cafè, they were greeted by a server who was dressed rather uniquely. Their server also possessed a French accent, which was a red flag to Brimstone. On top of how they dressed. The place had looked like a meth lab- not that Brimstone had ever been to one. The server was taking far too long to wait on KAY/O and Brimstone, so they had both opted to go back.
Once they had reached Headquarters, Brimstone went to his office to take his daily nap— however without caffeine, didn't wake up until 15:43, the next day.—-
