The sun woke you up pretty early, I guess Matt doesn't need curtains being blind and all. The sound of the city was strangely drowned out though. You reached your arm slowly across the bed hoping to find a warm body next to you but he was gone. Opening your eyes you could see the bathroom door was closed and assumed that's where Matt was, you sat up in bed. Reaching for your phone on the bedside table you noticed a few messages, one from your boss confirming they knew you weren't coming in and one from an unknown number.
You opened the message and it was simply a link, you clicked on it and noticed that it was going to take forever to load. You huffed in annoyance and slowly pulled back the covers and slid to the edge of the bed. The bathroom door opened to revel a half naked Matt still dripping water in his sweats.
Dear god.
The room suddenly became both too small and too big, he was so close to you and you were beyond thankful he couldn't see the way you were shamelessly gawking. He smirked just enough to make you almost slide of the bed onto the floor before finally breaking the tension in the room.
"Slept okay?" he asked his voice still gruff from sleep.
"Yeah, fine thank you. This bed is very comfy" you absently stroked your hand over the silk. Your eyes never left his face.
"Your body seems to be fine" he cocked his head a little to the right.
"What?" you furred your brow, what did that even mean. You glanced down at yourself, should you thank him. Your mind trailed off.
"I can hear the way your body is responding," as Matt spoke you realised how stupid you felt, he wasn't talking about they way you looked. He cant see! "I can hear the way your heart is beating, feel your skins temperature, smell the hormones and chemicals. You seem healthy" He shrugged his shoulders like it was perfectly normal he could scan you like an X-ray.
"You can tell all that about me?" you wanted the ground to open up, right there in his bedroom and swallow you whole.
"Yeah, I can even hear the way your skin is healing from the cut on your leg" he pointed to your left calf. You don't remember getting cut, last night maybe. Upon further inspection sure enough, you had a tiny shaving nick on your leg.
"I had no idea it was that involved... can you turn it off?" you asked, this is so weird. Did he know when you had a sick stomach or did he know when pregnant people were having a boy or a girl. So many questions.
"I can, it took a lot of practise and focus but I can." He walked over to the chest of drawers and pulled out a shirt. Noo, you're brain whined, take it back off!
"Where did you learn all of this?" You were acutely aware of your lack of pants now for some reason and you were pulling at the covers to cover your naked legs.
"It's a long and complicated story, one I don't exactly love telling" you noticed he left his red lensed glasses on the bedside, something that made you smile just a little. He trusted you enough to let his literal guard down at least, now you just had to crack his mental one.
"That's okay, maybe next time." you spotted your shorts from across the room and attempted to be your quietest as you scurried towards them and pulled them on. This action of frantic shuffling made Matt laugh.
You walked back towards the bed and unlocked your phone. You gasped and dropped it on the bed. It bounced off and hit the floor. This caught Matts attention and he was by your side in a second, he felt so useless in that moment. He could tell you were shocked and afraid but he couldn't tell why, he knew you'd picked up your phone but he couldn't see what was on it.
A tear rolled down your cheek. How could this all happen like this, you were just making regular coffee and now someone was checking up on you, watching your every move. You didn't want to live your life like this, looking over your shoulder.
"What?" Matt was trying desperately to hold himself together, he knew that devil inside was aching to surface. God how he wished he could see, he could taste the salt of your tear in the air.
"Its a picture of my apartment, all torn up" you gasped lightly through your hand that was clasped to your face.
"what? Who sent it?" you shook your head and you could feel Matt himself get warm. He took one strong step towards the bedroom door and faltered. Fighting with himself, should he bother with his next words.
"Stay here" he spoke so strongly but deeply, like he'd been training his whole life to tell you to do just that. "This is why I follow them out of the window" he grumbled that last bit to himself, like a personal victory. He grabbed shoes and a jacket before leaving the room.
Matt always moved so calculated, he grabbed his cane and left you standing in the open doorway of his bedroom.
Matt needed to know who was sending you photos and he knew that if he told foggy his favourite coffee lady was being harassed, then he'd help.
You were standing in Matts empty apartment with nothing but your laptop and time. You needed a distraction and digging through old photos and clearing up space seemed like a useful job. You found a file on the desktop of your computer you'd never noticed. One you sure didn't remember putting there, so you opened it. When you stumbled upon photos of yourself that you don't remember taking you got to digging.
Someone had a private file dedicated to you that they wanted you to find, it was only a few days old and occasionally there was photos of yourself from various directions. They knew you worked at the coffee place, and you lived in the apartment building that you did. But they never mentioned anything about your room number, or the break in or the large thug that broke into your room. Someone wanted you to be sacred, they wanted you to know they were coming.
This puzzle had only revealed to you more pieces, what the hell is going on!
