5 Years Later
I was carrying all the boxes of t-shirts in the venue. Yes, 5 years later, I still had not found a better job, but I couldn’t complain since I got to see my boyfriend everyday. I put the boxes down with a huff and started to open them. I hung up one of each style behind the counter just like always and taped down the bracelets on the top of the counter.
“You forgot one,” Danny told me putting a large cardboard box in front of me. He looked like he was anxious. For what, I had no idea.
“Thank,” I responded and started to open the flaps. I was expecting to find an abundance of t-shirts and other shit I was expected to sell tonight, but the first thing I spotted was a small black velvet box.
I looked at him curiously. “What’s this?” I questioned not really expecting an answer. I pulled the box out and started to open it. The object inside caught the stage lights and glimmered. I gasped when I realized what it was. It was a ring. A diamond ring. I looked at him and then back at the ring in disbelief. It was all I could do to keep my mouth from gaping open.
“Will you marry me, Cassidy?” I heard Danny ask. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. It was probably the prettiest ring I had ever seen. To think Danny had picked this out for me was hard for me to wrap my head around. I felt tears come to my eyes.
All I could do without bursting into tears was nod. They were tears of joy of course. I threw my arms around him and he hugged me back.
“I love you, Cass,” he whispered in my ear.
“I love you, too, Danny,” I replied softly. Danny was mine. He was officially and forever mine and no one could take that away from me.
