In the Kitchen, Shane put away some snacks he'd clearly bought for movie night.Layla had almost forgotten it was Saturday today.
He hadn't said anything more then a hi since he'd arrived. And Layla ran through every way to explain last night to him. How she was sooo drunk. Had no idea what she was saying. That he should never let her drink that much ever again! And then she would tell him that she didn't mean what she said about the bet, giving him the perfect out.
Knowing Shane he'd probably been worrying all morning about how to let her down gently. Oh, god she really hoped he hadn't read into it too much.
Quietly, Layla followed Shane into the kitchen, her hands tucked into the oversized sleeves of her favourite New York sweater.
Through his thin grey shirt the muscles at Shane's back shifted with every lift of his arm as he put something away in the cupboards. Her lower lip slipped between her teeth, focussing on each movement.
Stop that!
Startling herself, Layla cleared her throat and willed her voice to work normally.
"Soooo, about last night." The floor was very interesting as she toed the edge of one of the counter tops to her right.
"What about it?" He paused to glance in her direction, "Don't tell me you want to confess your undying love for me and the secret feelings you've been harbouring all this time." With a fake shocked expression, Shane's eyes sparkled with boyish amusement.
"No!" She squeaked and the corner of his lips tilted up.
"I actually have standards." She narrowed her eyes and hoped the blush didn't show."Well, my door is always open when you feel like telling me. Maybe add how amazing and heart achingly handsome I am too, just to sweeten the deal." Shane smirked, a dimple at his right cheek showing.
"Ass." She tried to sound serious as she chuckled and added, "It's about what I said."
"Ahh yes. Thanks by the way. I've always been super self conscious about my eyes but after last night I'm finally going to pursue my dream of becoming an eye model."
Layla snorted, "Sure, go for it." He really did have nice eyes.
"But It's about the other thing... The bet." You know, the one where I said we should flirt with each other like we're dating until one cracks and gives in? Yeah, let's forget about it and never speak of it again!
"I knew it." With a knowing sigh, Shane looked away to sort out the cupboard again. Putting away yet another packet off Oreos.
"Knew what?"
"That you'd chicken out. I told you last night you wouldn't be able to handle my charm. Although, I did think you'd last a little longer."
"I'm not chickening out... I'm just worried about how it will affect our friendship."
Layla didn't have time to say anything else as he turned to face her. With one long stride he was in front of her, a slow smile spreading across his face.
"It sounds more to me like you're scared." He bent forward, trapping her against the counter casually.
From where she stood Layla could see the light specks of brown in his otherwise black eyes.
Holy...
It was at that moment Layla's brain decided to take the opportunity to reboot because not a single word came to her mind.
