"Stay still, otherwise I'm gonna poke you in the eye with it!" Layla reprimanded Shane after he flinched again. The eyeshadow brush wielded in her hand like a weapon."Is it meant to hurt like this, your gripping my face like it's your last tub of ice cream." He whined. For a guy who was built like a Greek god he was actually a big wuss.
"Shush, beauty is pain Carter." One of her eyebrows raised to prove her point and Shane smiled as their eyes met for a long second.
There was still a few hours until they had to be at the after party. And when Shane had pulled out two matching outfits for them to wear it had been impossible to worm her way out of going.
And plus she'd look hot in the tight cat woman style get up he'd picked out for her. If she did bump into her ex at least she'd look the part of, I'm over you and now someone else will get what you'll never have.
Maybe that's what she needed, a distraction. Someone to help her get over everything that had happened with Adam.
Preferably someone who actually knew how the female body worked.
Sitting up onto her knees in front of where Shane sat cross legged on her bedroom floor, she tried to get a better angle. Why was he so damn tall.
A little unsteady, she bit her lip trying to keep her balance as she tilted his head all the way back to look up at her.
His hands found her waist, gently cupping her body just above her hips.
Layla choked on a gasp.
Warmth unfurled from his hands and settled in her lower stomach. Butterflies tickling her skin.
He seemed to notice her strange reaction because his eyebrows furrowed, his head almost tilting to one side before Layla held it still.
"No moving." She brushed off the strange feeling, he'd caught her by surprise.
"Yes ma'am." He replied smiling. She shot him a look.
Layla wasn't entirely sure how they'd ended up here in this position.
She'd been doing her makeup when Shane had burst into the room to show her the outfits and when she'd wanted to try out a new colour on him to see how it looked he barely protested. She hadn't even needed to tackle him this time.
"What. The. Hell. Is going on here." GG's voice cut through the room from the bedroom doorway.
Layla paused, eyes wide as she realised what it must look like. She looked to Shane for help but he seemed rather amused by the whole situation.
Turning around Layla said, "It's not what it looks like, I'm doing his makeup."
"In his lap?"
"No! I'm kneeling in front of him."
"I don't think that makes it any better." GG walked into the room and dumped herself and her stuff onto Layla's bed. She took in the whole scene. Shane grinning, both of them fully clothed and two different shades of eyeshadow over each of his eyes but it was his hands at her waist that GG paused on.
"Why is it with you two it's more believable that you're actually just doing his makeup and not hooking up with each other?" GG shook her head and Layla finally got to her feet.

After taking off his makeup GG had quickly shooed Shane out of the room, reminding him he wasn't one of the girls and under no circumstances was he to interrupt the two of them while they got ready.
He'd complained that she was mean but he'd left them to it. Apart from the odd text to Layla telling her to make a distressed owl sound if she was in danger. What did a distressed owl even sound like?
GG was 4ft 11 and Layla was pretty sure she could kick Shane's ass in any fight. So for his safety she kept him out of the way.
A few hours later and Shane banged at the door to hurry them up.
GG stepped out first, ten minutes after Shane had beckoned, her shimmering skin tight gold dress hiding nothing.
A second later Layla emerged. The tight cat woman inspired outfit had been altered by GG, with a semi see through corset dress and knee high black boots. Layla had kept the black masquerade mask from the original fit though.
Her cherry red lips attracted all the attention as the only real pop of colour.
And her first test subject... Shane did a double take from across the room.
His eyes darkening as if she were the object of his every desire. Then his eyes landed on her lips. Perfect.
He shifted on the spot.
"Are you ok Shane?" His eyes snapped up to Layla's, his usual joking persona gone and replaced by something she'd never seen before.
"Yeah, I'm good." His words were clipped. He quickly turned away and lead them out of the apartment.
Had she upset him?
