Gehrman, when will it end?
The sun has already begun to set. I must have dozed off. Last night's hunt was particularly foul. How such a beast remained hidden for so long is beyond me.
How long has it been since I last dreamed? My body feels so tired these days. How much longer can I carry on? Until the streets have been purged, until the very last of the beasts have fallen. Then... I can rest.
A brief wash, not enough time to properly clean myself. I look ragged, my hair and beard in desperate need of grooming. It can wait, the hunt will begin again soon. I am low on quicksilver bullets, lower than I remember being. I'll have to fix that at soon as possible. At least I have you, my trusty companion; the axe bestowed upon me so long ago. Like me, you have seen better days, but you have yet to fail me, and you shall not tonight.
There are so few of us now, so few left to hunt. So many have died, and those who haven't have ended up like Liam. But something feels different. I can't explain it, but it feels like the tide is finally starting to turn in our favour. Perhaps I'm simply being optimistic but surely the hunt cannot go on forever...
The streets are starting to clear now, I can see a few hunters among my fellow Yharnamites. They may not be able to keep up with us hunters, but their bravery cannot be understated. They take pitchforks, torches, and rifles in hand and prowl the night alongside us. There numbers aid them with the smaller beasts, though as of late-
That sound. that ear-splitting howl. The hunt has begun in earnest now, yet as accustomed to it as I am, I find myself becoming more weary of plunging headfirst into the fray. It simply means I still have my wits about me, enough sense to know when to fight, and when to run to live and fight another day.
It's time.
