"Shall I ring my mum now and let her know our news?" I question, admiring my ring for the hundredth time today.

Weston stops in front of me and grips my phone between my fingers. "No," he shakes his head. "Let's go visit her and let her know the news in person, gives us an excuse to see her. You can learn to get over your fear of the motorway."

My head tilts but I can't fight the smile on my lips. "Motorways scare me, alright? I've only been driving for eight months or so. Being a comfortable driver comes with time."

He chuckles and kisses the top of my head. "I know, I'm just teasing but it'll be good practice for you too."

"Okay, when shall we go?"

"Now."

"Now?"

Weston purses his lips and nods. "Yeah, right now. You can't tell her over the phone, imagine how excited she'll be when we tell her in person."

"True," I smile. "I just didn't know if you'd be busy with work today."

He tuts at me and kisses my head again. "Of course not, I'm never too busy to see my soon to be mother-in-law."

I peek my eyes up and him, feeling my heart soar into the sky at his words. "You're so cute," I say slowly. "Okay, let's go but can we pick up food on the way?"

"Duhhh," he grins back. "Grab your keys and let's make a move!"

My eyes search around for my keys, grabbing my jacket and heading for my car. "I hope she's not too busy today," I say as I slip inside the driver seat, Weston getting in beside me.

"Well I'm sure we can wait for her if she is," he nods and I agree.

"Let's hit the road."

We grab a Burger King on the way through before getting onto the motorway, I have to concentrate so hard that I order Weston not to speak. Motorways are dangerous and I wanted to get there in one piece.

It doesn't take long to get to my mothers, we park outside and I grab the bouquet of flowers that we purchased at the nearest shop on the way.

Weston's hand rests on my back gently, we approach the front door and I raise my knuckles to knock.

After a few moments the door swings open and my mother opens the door, her eyes flicking from mine to Weston. Her mouth opens and she grins brightly. "Oh my goodness, what are you guys doing here?"

"Here to surprise you," I say. "Surprise."

Her face melts and she holds open her arms. "Oh, come here won't you?"

I lean down and wrap my arms around my mother, holding her close to my chest and closing my eyes. "Missed you so much," I mumble into her hair.

"Missed you more my boy," her voice wobbles and I don't want her to cry.

When I pull back Weston is already ready to give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "So lovely to see you again Nicola," he tells her politely.

"Always a pleasure to see you, Weston. You've both brightened up my day!"

"I got these for you," I hold out the flowers.

"Oh Micah, you're so kind. Thank you. Do come in." She moves her head into the house and she wheels her chair away.
