After that glorious race throughout the town and with an unknown thief latched onto your arm. You both arrive at the docks and all of that joy that you felt beforehand, just dropped out of your body as there is not a single large ship in sight. No cutters, no coursaires, not a single one. You hear the white-haired man swear and start speaking.
"Fuck! I think they left me." He turns around and faces you with a charming grin. Which brings a slight heat to your face.
"Well, it's been a fun run with ya princess. But I've got to go."
He is just about to let go of your arm and take off running to who knows where. But before he lets go you reach your hand out and grab onto his arm. It's a crazy idea... But it might work. You pull a sly grin before asking,
"Where do you think you're going?""Away from here, lady." His eyes squint condescendingly. "And if you're smart, you should be getting away too."
"I would start running myself if you weren't running in the direction of the Naval base."
Your comment makes him stop dead in his tracks. He turns back to you with a pleading look on his face. "Could you please show me the way out of here then?"
"Only if you agree to take me onto your captain's ship."
He looks down at you in shock.
"You can't be serious.""Well, I'm not joking either." you readjust your stance and place one hand on your hip.
He grabs his forehead as if in deep thought.
"I suggest you think a little faster. I can see the tops of the redcoats gun's from here."
His eyes widen in surprise and he quickly looks over to the cobblestone street sure enough, at the end of the street the sight of red and white coated men is seen.
Loading up their weapons. Not wanting either of you to become cannon fodder. You grab his arm and roughly pull him to the edge of the dock, under many protests.
"What the hell are you doing?!?" He quickly yanks his arm out of your tight grip.
"Saving your life you, overthinking sea dog! Jump in the water."
"What?" He stares at you in confusion.
"I said jump into the water!" In the distance, you can see a set of ten silver barrels raised aimed in your general direction. Seeing how dire both of your situations are, you grab his arm and pull on it with all of your might into the black waters. You brace yourself for the hard splash against your back the coldness of the water almost squeezes the air out of your lungs. The weight of your steel corset isn't helping either as you feel yourself starting to sink. As you try and make your way up to the surface a firm tanned hand reaches down from the surface. You immediately reach up to grab onto it. A firm hand pulls you out of the water and to the surface with surprising speed. You cough and sputter as you breach the surface.
"The hell is wrong with you!?" The white-haired man whispers harshly. As he helps you into the supports underneath the huge fishing dock.
You smile at his intuitiveness as this was exactly what you had in mind and the sight of his once floofy hair that is plaster to his face.
"The same thing as you. You thought of the same solution I did."
He looks down at you and rolls his eyes. "That was only after you tossed us both into the freezing water!""All I did was give you a little nudge."
"A LITT-ugh- Well, now what do we do" he looks down at you with a tired look in his blue eyes.
"Now, we wait."
"Do you care to elaborate any further?"
"Not really. It takes away the fun if I have to explain everything. So no."
He shakes his head at your obstinance.
After a few hours of waiting under the dock. Night has finally come and has cast a dark shadow over the water. The sound of the soldier's footsteps is finally starting to fade away. You look up to your white-haired friend and nod your head, you swim over to the edge of the dock to see no one left on the docks. You raise your hand out of the water and move him towards you.
You swim over to the ledge that you jumped off of and pull yourself up onto the concrete stones. Once you're out of the water you lay yourself down on the hot stones, you sit up and stand up when the feeling of being watched becomes too much. You look in the direction of the stare to see the white-haired man staring bulletholes into you. Wanting to get out from under his intense scrutiny you walk over to him and ask. "What is your name?"
"Why in the seven hells would I want to tell you?" He asks as he stands up and takes off his white shirt to wring it out.
"Well, if you want to get off this island you're going to need my help. That much is plainly obvious and I'm pretty sure you don't want me to come up with a nic name for you."
He remains silent for a couple of moments, "...fine, Devon. What are we supposed to do now?"
"Devon, Nice name. Mine's Darby. And now we wait until one of the many fishing boats comes into port, steal it and sail away."
"That simple? and how long are we going to wait, until morning?" He asks sarcastically.
"That simple. The fishermen come back by three in the morning." You pull a pocket watch out of your pocket and click it open. "So anytime now. Keep your eyes peeled."
