because it was you

hyejin was excited. for the first time in awhile she felt true happiness. after meeting youngmin last night, they talked about some random things such as; hyejin's day at work, some of their interests and even hobbies before agreeing to meet at the same place on the same time tomorrow, which was today!

when hyejin got home last night she was so happy that she called out for seolhyun and yuna as soon as she stepped foot into the small apartment completely forgetting they weren't there, while the sudden realization of her being alone was enough to dampen her mood it wasn't enough to completely diminish it. so, she simply grabbed her phone and sent a quick message to the groupchat before heading to her room.

hyejin: guys
hyejin: i think i made a friend!

seolhyun: girl wtf who?? explain pls

yuna: yeah right

hyejin: uhm rude
hyejin: it's a guy i found on a bench

seolhyun: wow the disrespect she just gave you

yuna: on a BENCH

seolhyun: is he homeless..?

hyejin:i didn't say his house the bench
hyejin: tf

yuna: LMAOOOO

seolhyun: oh my bad anyways please tell us about this wonderful bench boy

hyejin: he's ethereal
hyejin: beautiful
hyejin: sweet
hyejin: hot
hyejin: wow

yuna: girl is he an anime character tf

hyejin: deadass might as well be

seolhyun: nah i'm fr confused, if he's not hyunjin then he must not be all of those things

hyejin: girl he's way more attractive than hyunjin
hyejin: anyway we meeting tomorrow
hyejin: i'll try and keep y'all updated

seolhyun: ain't no fucking way...

yuna: well he ain't yoongi so idc

hyejin: who tf yoongi?

seolhyun: HUH?? who is yoongi????

yuna: that hot tattoo artist duh

hyejin: uhm
hyejin: explain

seolhyun: fr who is this man

yuna: like i said a hot tattoo artist, downtown hehe

hyejin: chile anyways...... so about bench boy

sometime during the messaging, hyejin ended up laying back on her bed. so, she quickly sat up before heading to her dresser to pick out some pajamas. once settled on a matching baby blue silk pajama set, hyejin made her way to the bathroom and took a quick shower.

now she was currently rushing to work, the smile never leaving her face as she thought about last nights encounter. that day at work was different from the rest, everything seemed so much brighter and more lively making the day seem to go by faster. though the closer it got to the meeting time, the more hyejin's excitement turned to nervousness  as a hundred scenarios made their way to the front of her mind. what if he didn't show? what if something happens on his way there and he ends up dead without anyone knowing? what if- hyejin quickly shook her head in an attempt to rid herself of such thoughts yet they remained until she saw his familiar shape on the bench they occupied the previous night. upon seeing him all her anxiety riddled thoughts completely vanished as if they weren't there in the first place. taking a deep breath to mentally prepare herself hyejin made her way over with a smile and sat besides him.

"did i make you wait long?"

youngmin smiled brightly ableit nervously as he played with the hem of his shirt "no i just got here don't worry" nodding hyejin hummed softly before hesitantly speaking up "you don't have to answer but why were you crying yesterday? you just looked so sad" laughing softly, youngmin scratched the back of his neck before answering "it really wasn't anything that big" looking away in order to hide his blush he continued "honestly i probably overreacted..." trailing off he glanced at hyejin curiously only to find her looking at him with curious nonjudgmental eyes. taking a deep breath he continud "well i got into a fight with my friend about his crush... you see i guess she likes me-" pausing he looked to hyejin and panicked slightly with a blush as he rushed to clarify "i don't like her back! i just uhm.... i barely know her and i would never do that to him! especially since i know he likes her..." realizing he was rambling he shook his head before looking down "anyway he thought i was leading her on and one thing led to another and i was here at the park crying.... i didn't realize he thought of me like that i mean we train together and everything. we have been for years"

hyejin listened to youngmin vent quietly as she let all the information sink in, once she saw that he was done talking she spoke up: "i'm sure he was just jealous his crush had eyes for you and in a fit of frustration took it out on you" she reassured softly as she sat up and hesitantly rubbed his back in an attempt to comfort him "have you got the chance to talk to him? if not i think it's best you let him know-" pausing she shook her head "no reassure him that you don't like this girl, at least not in that way. it'd be ashame for you to lose you friend over a girl" youngmin looked to hyejin in shock but quickly smiled as he leaned into her touch, simply enjoying the much needed comfort.
"i haven't been able to talk to him but i'll be sure to do as you said, thank you.... i really appreciate it" turning his head he looked into hyejin's eyes.

as youngmin looked into her eyes her breath caught in her throat as a blush made it's way to her face. quickly breaking eye contact she cleared her throat nervously and looked up at the moon, being sure to pull her hand away from him in order to not make it weird.
"so uhm you said you trained with your friend for years? are you an idol trainee or something?"
youngmin quickly hid his disappointment when hyejin pulled away and broke eye contact, instead turning his gaze to the moon as well. "yeah something like that" smiling to himself he turned his attention back to hyejin simply admiring her before smirking. "you don't go up to every stranger you see crying on a bench do you?" he teased softly, successfully earning a small laugh from hyejin

her laugh was beautiful

"your the only person i've found crying on a bench so i'm gonna have to say no" smiling she turned to look at youngmin as she teased back "you never know though~ if i see someone else i might just have to go check it out" that of course was a lie as hyejin got lucky with youngmin. next time it could be a rapist or some serial killer so there was absolutely no way she'd take that risk again. frowning at the thought youngmin gently grabbed hyejin's shoulders and made her fully face him as he narrowed his eyes "don't. you got really lucky it was someone like me" his eyes softened slightly along with his hold as he slowly pulled away and looked down "next time it could be someone dangerous so... just don't, please" smiling hyejin gently put her fingers under youngmin's chin and turned his head to look at her "don't worry, you will be the only stranger i walk up to"

youngmin gently grabbed hyejin's hand and held it up to his cheek, leaning into it, he smiled "good"
