Waking up one morning, sweating from another nightmare, I hurried to the restroom to freshen myself up. "Why these dreams?" I wondered.

Dead horses. Floating fishes amidst murky waters. Flies gathering around carcasses.

"What do these mean?" I thought to myself as I dried my face with a towel and walked to the kitchen. Ahhhh... the smell of fresh brewed coffee. A good start to another day. My desk is full of papers, folders, pictures, as usual.

"Where to start?" I muttered to myself. Working as an Investigative Journalist for about 10 years now, has made me start almost every sentence with a question. "Does anyone else live like this?" I can't help but ask another question. I caught myself tapping mindlessly on my desk with a pen when a familiar voice behind me woke me up from my sordid slumber as my thoughts started drifting back to those disturbing dreams again.

"Well, how nice of you to join us today." My boss said as I turned and gave him a look that showed him that I can recognize sarcasm in his tone. I was so tempted to shoot back a smug remark but I was able to stop myself. I could deny it all I want, but I know that I have become very fond of my boss. He is like a father to me. No, he would hate that. He is more of a young uncle to me, then.

I smiled at the thought of his disapproval. "I am not that old!", he will surely say. He smiled back as we exchanged looks that conveyed we knew what each other was thinking. Then he shook his head as he walked away. I can hear him scoff.
