Novarre 13, Note 1
I write this Journal as a record of the events and to tell the story of myself and the Metro and its people. To begin I must cover the brief history of what my father told me life was before the invasion of Grimm.
Mountain Glenn is home to beasts of Grimm but also a testament to man's blunder. The ambitions of years past had laid the groundwork for this sprawling city and everything seemed like it was fine. On the surface, the city was like any other. Areas of leisure that housed beer halls and cafeterias of mountains of food, industrial and refinement near the edge of town, and housing for the denizens of this place. However, a dark secret lurked beneath the mining hub the initial subways and mines held criminals ranging from the pettiest crimes of mugging a defenseless lady to murderers, terrorists, and other bottom-of-the-barrel members of society. Hell, even the unwanted there like orphans, Faunas, and the disabled. Oddly enough these "people '' formed their own society and customs finding comfort in knowing others face the same situation. They adopted their own language, currency, and even weapons. Stories and rituals are often performed as blessings and curses and stories or folktales to haunt and keep the others away from the unnatural. Of course, with this came wars and factions fighting over the underground areas or resources. The people paid no mind and merely looked on in amusement as such displays of savagery and only acknowledged it as "The Metro ''.
One day, the city fell and residents had no idea as they were too busy fighting and bickering over useless wars and ideas. The only indication and what prompted them to realize the city fell were influxes of Grimm appearing in the Metro slaughtering men and women alike with no regard for what happens to them. Despite all this and the freedom granted to them in finally being able to leave.
They didn't.
Novarre 13, Note 2
Of course there were the few who wished to leave the bloodshed and explore the world but as a consensus most had not wanted to leave the Metro having lived in it so long they knew of nothing else and feared what may lay out there. The factions continued fighting battles and residents lived as if the city never fell in the first place. Over time the people of the Metro adapted to its environment mainly in altering the body from slightly better vision/hearing and coordination in such confined spaces. More so in the later years in expansion plans from other factions much of the army strength had been for outposts on the surface while tightening the walls and areas of the Metro for holdouts and checkpoints. Similar to the people of the Metro, so too, did other creatures begin to shape and reside within. There was the occasional Grimm but these new monsters had horrified even the battle hardened veterans of the Metro. Ghoulish creatures that used to be men now contorted and lost all sense of reason. Hunched over corpses and bones of animals with visible signs of starvation as their skin hugged and suffocated their chest with each breath seemingly about to burst the lungs. Eyes sunk and deprived of any soul with only the desire to consume with the jagged and rotten teeth and rip apart with its peeled fingers and decrepit palms. Many had believed these to be scavengers and exiles forced to survive under horrible conditions but in turn losing what made them human. Normal animals too became afflicted and changed from their surface species. Spiders grew shells and were now as big in size to nearly that of a large dog and bioluminescent skin. Wolves stayed the same size but instead lost all sense of reason and would willingly tear their limbs from their body to eat, similar to the ghouls. Each and every creature of the Metro had one intention: survival. Then came what is now known or rather called "anomalies"
These things held no physical shape but instead were masses of energy floating and killing whatever stood in their way. They aren't anymore 'evil' than say - fire and simply just "exist" in the tunnels. An old friend told my father that when they first passed through these tunnels. Many supernatural phenomena are paired alongside the anomalies but I know from personal experience that the two remain completely different. For instance, take the pipes littered across the Metro. Put your ear up to it and you'll hear what people call "the damned souls". These also manifest into what I believe may be just hallucinations but silhouettes of people who still haunt the grounds feeling they still have some sort of attachment or duty to fulfill before they can pass on peacefully. I have encountered very few but the fear and paralysis upon seeing them is unlike any other sensation. My father had even come across them in his travels as a spartan but I do not wish to retell his tale as I've heard enough of them from my mother growing up.
