Amy and I were in big room and spacious room. The walls were covered with shelves and on the shelves books. The books were beautiful. Some were old and some were new. There were big book and books the size of a postage stamp. I started when I heard the voice and turned around. There was a large wooden desk in front of big velvet curtains that were probably covering the windows. An old small man sat behind the desk. He had dark skin and no was bald. 'That's alright, Amy. Sit down and tell me what happened.' He spoke with a slight accent and his voice was deep and calming. Amy sat down on one of the chairs and immediately began explaining what had happened in the van. After a moment I sat down next to Amy. '... and I used the Elevator to get here and as you can see she's still here' finished Amy. I had no idea what she meant with me still being here. Of course I was still there. 'Your name is Anna?' asked the old man. I nodded and he smiled amused as if he knew that wasn't my name. 'I'm professor Cararoo.' He smiled at me kindly. 'Amy could you please wait outside. I would like to talk to Anna in private' he said. Amy stood up and glanced curiously at me as she walked out of the room through a tall wooden door. 'Could you tell me if anything strange has happened to you before this? Any strange thing that you can't explain?' asked professor Cararoo. For a moment I considered lying but Amy and I had just walked into his office from shimmering air and he hadn't thought that was strange. Maybe he might believe me? I thought. I told him all the strange things that I had done. When I had finished talking he nodded and didn't look at me as if I was some kind of crazy girl. He believes me! The thought had bounced about in my head. 'And your parents never noticed this?' he asked. I was instantly on alert. I didn't want to tell him anything about my parents. Especially not about my mother. 'No' I answered. That wasn't a lie. My dad had never noticed and I hadn't seen my mum in seven years so I doubted that she knew. 'Do you know why I can do these strange things?' I asked, changing the subject. 'I think that you're a Halfling.' Said the professor. 'A Halfling? What's that?' I asked. It sounded something strange. 'A Halfling is someone that's part human and part something else. Amy is a Halfling. She's part human and part faerie.' Explained professor Cararoo. I wasn't a human!!! I felt myself go dumb with shock. I probably overreacted but I couldn't believe that all my life I thought I was a human being. Not a normal one but still human. And now it turns out that I wasn't one. Or maybe the professor was lying. I only just met him but he seemed to be telling the truth. 'How do you know' I asked. 'All the things you said you could do. Those are typical things for a Halfling. A Halfling is always born with the elements that they can control. Fire, water, earth, air and spirit. When a Halfling becomes thirteen one of the elements becomes stronger than the other and they start to learn how to control that element.' I felt overwhelmed then but that feeling vanished quickly. It might all sound strange but what I could do was strange so I decided to believe professor Cararoo. 'If I'm only part human then what else am I?' I asked. 'I don't know. But there is a way that we can find out.' Said Cararoo. 'How?' I asked. I was determined to find out what I was. I would do anything to find out what I was. Well, maybe not have somebody look into my mind (who knew what these people could do). 'The only way to find out what you are is for me to enter into your mind.' Said professor Cararoo. My heart sank.
