The Northern command, bathed in the irresistible pulchritude of moist greenery, owing to the aftermath of the summer showers. The dusky abendrot sky looked aesthetically pleasing because of the orange and red hues that were scattered dexterously on the blue canvas devoid of white clouds.
The April heat had brazenly skyrocketed with no respite but today it had favorably ceased; nevertheless momentarily. Thanks to the serendipitous rains which had put off the sweltering heat waves and calmed the caustically scorching earth.
The tiny dew drops rested leisurely on the verdant-green leaves with no worries of the grueling world. The birds merrily chirped and left their temporary hideouts to fly back to their nests cocooned in puny straws and unimaginable warmth. Contrary to the twittering passerines, the stagnant Adam's ale picked up pace and silently flowed away in search to meet its eternal companion.
Viyaan could feel the cool breeze solicitously gliding over his lithe frame before washing away his obscure weariness. The damp evening was soothing to his eyes when looked from the heights. His surroundings, encompassed of exuberant nature made him feel a little closer to the foreign feeling of love and peace.
However, nothing could ebb the egregious tides of his everlasting distress. The view absorbed by his eyes infiltrated his nerves to calm his senses yet died a hopeless death before it could touch his agitated soul.
For,
Tranquility had brutally abandoned him long ago; leaving him withered and opening doors for him to die bit by bit. The moment he had relentlessly pushed her away was the very moment when rampant gloom had welcomed him with wide-open arms.
Not a scant second for the last three years had gone by without remembering her. For all those poignant days, he had lived in excruciatingly painful situations arising due to his profession but not for once did he bat an eyelash. But on days like today, he wanted to rip open his chest and take out his beating organ which was weeping heedlessly.
If there ever was a time Viyaan had both love and peace, then it was when he was with her. Unfortunately he lacked to give her the same. He was ought to make her life miserable, as he had been doing from the very beginning. Before it was unintentional and now it had become a habit.
A toxic habit.
He deciphered soon this virulent toxicity would widen the already wide wedge between them and in the end she would break the shackles of their meaningless relation and fly away far from his reach.
Be it as it may, he was a dolt to believe so. From the very start he had never shackled his woman. Not even once. He had convincingly failed to fathom that his love was her biggest freedom. If anything it was wholesome and liberating.
Self loathing had been his newest leisure and today it had reared its head with brutish dominance. He couldn't point out whether it was due to his imminent vacation or the change of month in few hours. But one thing was sure, today's night was gonna go painfully long.
He was busy in his glum musings when he heard approaching footsteps. He swiveled and saw a young soldier walking towards him.
"Major, Colonel Hassan has summoned you to his office. Said it was important and also urgent."
Viyaan passed a faint smile, nodded and walked away without saying a word. He knew there was nothing important and certainly no urgency. Bestowed with the knack of reading between the lines, he could already tell the purpose of this summon.
With confident gait and sure steps he trod towards the Colonel's office and knocked at the door before entering on hearing a faint yes.
"Jai hind, Sir."
