What is love at first sight?

Something like hearing a song for the very first time and suddenly you realize it is what you have been waiting to hear all your life?

Nice! But no.

Something like an explosive spark or the clenching of heart muscles or the feeling of deep familiarity stemmed from past life association?

Hypothetical! But again no.

Something akin to admiring the moon and forgetting about your entire existence so as to stare at its beauty till infinity?

Poetic! Still a no.

Something very shallow?

I don't know. The one's who have not only experienced but lived through it will be of an altogether different opinion than the ones who haven't.

A parlous risk?

Bull's-fucking-eye!

Devashish placed his tea cup onto the table and picking up a pen from the desk wrote down the word 'risk' in capital and bold letters on his notepad. He clumsily drew circles, round and round around it and finally stopped when his overexcited heart recalled the mesmerizing visage that had instinctively captivated him at the first glance and had reduced him to a love sick fool.

Doctor. Devashish Talwar, by a fluke happened to attend the party hosted by the Bedi family. His younger brother was supposed to accompany his father however at the last minute Devashish had to fill in, instead of him. And that's how he ended up not only as a guest but also as a secret admirer of certain someone named Aahana Bedi.

All evening, from the moment she entered till she left, his eyes had shamelessly followed her around the garden. The forbidding allure surrounding her lithe frame had also failed to deter him from noticing each and every gesture of hers. He'd even unabashedly concentrated on the steady rise and fall of her chest so as to match his breathing pattern with hers.

It was heights of creepiness but he would realize it if and only if he was conscious of his actions.

To say he had enjoyed the party would be an understatement. Like the other guests he hadn't appreciated the aesthetic ambience. Neither had he rushed to appease his hunger by savoring the appetizing delicacies. Heck he didn't even approach the senior Bedi couple to congratulate them for completing 35 years of their lives hand in hand. He was down that bad!

Despite being an intruder in the setting, he felt as if he had found the familiarity and sheer comfort of his home. Urgently he'd made himself comfortable, away from the crowd so that none could disturb his eyes from their feast. And the crux of his entire attention had bestowed him with pure entertainment.... He could give her that.

The harmless fun begun when he'd caught her rolling her eyes at every other person. He had bit his lips to stop his laugh on registering her unwelcoming smiles and apathetic monosyllable answers. She had passionately ignored all the guests, irrespective of their age and gender. Her sharp indifference was in its full glory and he would be lying if he said it didn't turn him on.

Her face was a plain canvas and no emotion had failed to not paint it. Catching onto the smallest nuances on her feminine features was actually effortless.

A permanent red flush dexterously tinting her cheeks had reminded him of the sanguine blood roaring in his veins. He noted the flush was not because she was blushing. No... He could wager his life to prove she was not the one to blush. She belonged to the category which made other's blush.

The creases marring her forehead while conversing with another midget had brazenly affected him. He had so wished to walk over and personally erase away those creases with his nimble fingers. But then she had looked happy as the conversation proceeded to which he had felt his spirits rising again.
