Cheryl's POV
"Momma, don't forget its career day at school today!" Sasha yells at me as she pulls her backpack on."I will try to be there Bug!" I say finishing my bowl of cereal.
"But you promised!" She yells stomping her foot while crossing her arms.
"I know Bug, but you know how Mommas job works." I say and she looks down sadly.
"Come on Sasha, you can't be late again." Veronica says while giving me a knowing look. Veronica is the house secretary and a close family friend. She's like the older sister I never had.
I get up from my stool and make my way to my daughter. I kiss her head and she gives me a hug while kissing my cheek.
When we pull apart she runs her finger across my face like she does everyday before she leaves. "Come home Momma." She whispers and I give her a smile.
"Always." I say and she gives me one last hug before leaving out the fire station doors with Veronica.
This is something we do everyday before she leaves, it's our ritual.
I make my way to the lounge room and see my coworkers and friends playing a game of cards.
"Don't forget today we are supposed to go to my daughter's school with the truck. Her kindergarten class has career day today." I say and the guys nod their heads and say a small okay boss.
"I'm gonna make sure the trucks ready." I say walking to the truck I know all too well. It's the same truck my dad drove. I remember spending so much time with him in this truck and he would teach me the things I needed to know.
I check over all the equipment and make sure it's all ready to go. Just as I'm walking to my locker the bell rings signaling we have a call.
I quickly rush to my locker and pull on all of my gear and take off towards the truck. The rest of my men follow as we all climb up into the rig. The garage door opens and I take off towards our destination.
When I pull up on scene I notice it's a house fire. I pull the truck up beside the house and get out with all my men. Another truck follows behind me along with an ambulance. I spot a woman crying frantically trying to get back inside but civilians are holding her back. I quickly move to her through the crowd of people and my men follow behind.
"Ma'am, is this your home?" I ask and she nods her head as she continues to cry.
"Is there anyone else left inside?" I ask and she nods her head again, letting out a loud cry.
"My kids. Their trapped in their rooms." She cries and I look to my men.
"How many children Ma'am?" I ask getting my gear ready.
"There's two of them. Their rooms are all on the top floor." She cries and I pull my helmet on.
"Don't worry Ma'am, we will get your children out safely." I say stepping away from the hysterical mother and turning to my men.
"Kevin, Moose you both take the left wing. Sweet pea and Fangs you both sweep the bottom floor. Archie you take the right wing with me." I say pulling my mask on. The other truck is spraying water trying to put out the fire while my team and I enter the burning home.
Sweet pea and Fangs begin to sweep the bottom floor while the rest of us work our way upstairs. Kevin and Moose move down the left wing of the hallway while Archie and I take the right.
We come across the first room.
"Fire Department, call out!" I yell and I hear a scream come from inside the room.
