"Welcome back Upper East siders, long time no see. It's September, and with this month, the school year begins. Just this morning, Violet Bass was spotted leaving her family's penthouse, uniform perfectly ironed, but tie askew..."
< Violet Waldorf - Bass
She headed towards Constance Billard Private High School , her brown satchel swinging.
The school's name very much mirrored its atmosphere: stuffy, prestigious, and full of ridiculously spoilt students. It was her senior year at Constance Billard, and she still wasn't quite sure if she fit in. Her mother, Blair Waldorf-Bass, had ruled the stuffy establishement when she attended, and many had called her Queen B. Unfortunately, popularity didn't seem to run in the Waldorf-Bass family,as Violet only had 3 friends, and no-one was calling her Queen B, that's for sure. Truthfully speaking, Violet felt as though students saw her as a concept rather than a person. There were however, a couple exceptions to this feeling.
-Hey, how was your summer?
She turned around, and smiled as she saw Ava Cheong, her best friend.
Her father was the extremely wealthy CEO of Cheong Jewellry & Co, which was a luxury jewellry company that had hundreds of boutiques all over the US and Canada.-The same as always. I went on vacation with my family. We stayed in Athens, which was amazing.
< Ava Cheong
She wasn't entirely telling the truth. Athens had been amazing, but what she'd really wanted all summer was to intern at the Spectator, the biggest newspaper in the city. She hadn't told her parents, as she was afraid that she might disappoint them. Her mother had always wanted her to intern at Waldorf Designs, but fashion had never been her dream.
With parents like hers, it was hard not to feel like you had to be up to standard.
Her mother, Blair Waldorf Bass, was the head of Waldorf Designs, and, her clothes were worn by socialites, celebrities and business women alike. Her father was head of Bass Industries, and owned multiple hotels across the country, and most of New York. She, on the other hand, had always had a passion for writing.No-one in her immediate family shared this passion, so she often felt quite isolated in that regard. She of course had previously admired brands like Dior or Givenchy, the latter being because of her obsession with Audrey Hepburn, which had been passed down to her by her mother. By the time she turned 14 she had seen essentially all of the actress' work, with her favourite being "Sabrina", which was the film that had ignited her deep love for France's capital.
-Did you hear there's a new girl starting at Constance this year?
-No, who?
She said sarcastically. She lived in her own bubble most of the time, and unless this person was different to other prep school kids she had met, she didn't think they'd be worth her time. She wasn't conceited, she just hated most people.
-Come on V, aren't you the least bit interested? I hear she's hot...
she said with a lilting tune in her voice.
Now, Ava was the only person that Violet had told about being bi.
It's not like her parents were homophobic, but this didn't stop her from being highly stressed about their reactions. She had heard many a horror story on the internet about queer kids coming out to their families and being, so to speak, kicked to the curb, and, in some cases, being sent to conversion camp, which, if she was being honest, sounded like her personal definition of hell.
And to top it all off, her brother was quite possibly the straightest person to exist,as he was on the rugby team at Harvard, and changed his girlfriend as often as Ava changed earrings.
-Come, on, we've got to get to class!
Ava tugged her towards the entrance. Violet followed begrudgingly. She had a feeling this year would be like no other...
