A/N :Hi, this chapter isn't very good in my opinion, so don't take it too seriously :)

"Welcome back to another year at Constance Billard. I hope you have all been doing your summer reading, as it will come in handy when you take the SATs later this year."

Groans echoed throughout Ms Dunham's AP literature class, which happened to be Violet's favourite. You're probably wondering why these supposedly gifted kids hadn't done their summer reading. The disappointing truth was that most of them didn't even have the correct level needed for this class, it was usually because their parents wanted their resumés to be good enough for whatever Ivy League college they wanted them to get into.

-What did you think of 'Emma' ? Yes?

-I thought that she was too overbearing, and that she should have given Harriet the freedom to fall in love with the man she was attracted to.

She blinked. She hadn't thought anyone had actually read one of the books assigned to the class. She turned her head, and was met with a dazzling girl blessed with thick, glossy, dark hair, and eyes to match. She wondered why she hadn't seen her at Constance, before, and then remembered Ava's comment about a "hot new girl".

-Very good, Priya.

She smiled, and Violet was overcome with warmth. This girl was like a ray of sunshine in what  had been, up till now, a rather grey and uninteresting first day at school.

-Remember to reread and annotate the first two chapters of 'Emma' for our next class !

Ms Dunham called out, as the bell rang throughout the building, signifying that it was time for lunch. Violet walked out into the sunny courtyard, maple trees dotted around benches, their crimson and gold leaves gleaming in the sunlight. She sat down on one of the picnic benches and took out her faux leather bound journal and a pen, and began to write.

Writing had always been one of her very few passions. It was a way to escape the real world, and deal with her sometimes overbearing emotions healthily.

-Can I sit here?

She looked up, and was shocked to see Priya standing there, her dark eyes smiling up at her.

-Sure.

She said, nonchalantly. To say she was experiencing butterflies would be an understatement. She felt them in her whole body.

-Where did you live before you came here?

-Well, this is actually the first stable living situation I've had.

-Really? How so?

-I've been in and out of foster care my whole life. My mom couldn't take care of me. She was going through alot. Honestly I don't know much about her, since she left when I was 9. I've been adopted now, so I'm hoping this home will work out.

A/N: disclaimer: I don't know much about the foster care system, so correct me if I make any mistakes :)

Violet was floored. She didn't know what to say. She'd lived in a privileged bubble her whole life, so she'd never had to deal with anything like what Priya had just described. She couldn't even imagine how hard that must have been for her.

-I'm so sorry you had to experience that. Can I hug you?

-It's ok, it's always been this way for me. Sure.

She smiled, and Violet fell into her arms. She smelled of jasmine and vanilla, and something sweet she couldn't quite put her finger on, which made her feel safe.

-Can I have your number?

-Sure.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I know I promised drama, and don't worry it's coming!

Muahahaha...
