Adira
Adjusting the case of beer in my hands again I step beside Cammy. Her back towards the party she jumps in suprise. "Shit you scared me." She laughs, holding her hand to her chest.
"Sorry. Your stupid brother made me help him grab these." I put down the beer. Shaking out my arms and hands to appear like they hurt my palms with their weight.
"That's where you were? I was about to go looking for you. Jesse was just going to tell the guys." Cammy points to him chatting with Tanner and Gavin.
"Welp, I'm back." I fake a chuckle. "No manhunt needed."
Smiling, Cammy wraps her arms around me. "Thanks for giving me space to chat with Jesse alone. I think he likes me." She whisper squeals in my ear.
A genuine laugh shakes through my chest. "Of course he does, you're pretty."
Wrapping my arms around her I rest my forehead on her shoulder. "Sorry if took so long getting back, that case is heavy." I hate that the lie passes my lips, that she'll believe it, that our friendship won't be built on one hundred percent honesty.
"I'd of told him to eat dirt. You're nicer than I am." She jokes, pulling away but keeping me tucked under one arm. "She's back!" She hollers at Jesse.
Jesse's smile lights up when he turns towards her and I can't help but smile for Cammy. It looks genuine and kind. He doesn't even bother turning back to Tanner or Gavin before rushing to us.
"Hey, she was worried. Next time throw up a smoke signal or something. Cammy was ready to call in SWAT." He grins.
"Was not." She giggles.
Sliding from Cammy's arms I pick the case of beer back up. "Evan said to bring this down here. Something about a floating dock. Where should I put it?" I ask Jesse.
Stepping closer to Cammy he nods and points over my shoulder. "Yeah, uhmm.. right over there. Just put it by the dock. Someone will walk it down before they de-attach the platform. Gavin's brother was on the swim team. Him and his buddies like to do races sometimes."
Looking over at the dock surrounded by people I frown. "Is that safe? Everyone's been drinking."
Shrugging his shoulders he takes a sip out of his beer. "No one's ever got hurt before. It's fine."
Looking at Cammy I raise up the case. "Okay well I'll go set this over there."
"Want me to carry that?" Cammy reaches for the case.
Shifting out of reach I shake my head. "N-no I got it."
"I can carry that." Gavin interrupts.
Looking up I watch as he walks over. Tanner at his side smirking at me.
"O-oh it's okay." I respond.
Pushing between Jesse and Cammy Gavin rips the box from my hands. "I got it."
Letting go I wipe my hands on my pants. "Okay then." I breath out, rolling my eyes internally.
Smiling down at me he pushes the case of beer into me and juts his chin out. "Let's go."
My eyes dart to Cammy and she wiggles her brows at me. My nose crinkling in response she giggles and shoos me with her hand.
Turning, I set off for the dock, Gavin on my left. "What took you so long?" He asks.
Biting my lip I look across the water. "It's heavy." I lie.
The sound of footsteps behind me and the smell of weed lets me know Tanner's behind us. Watching us, or more likely watching me specifically.
