"But what if I mess it up? I don't want to lose you and what we have for the cause." Jac whispered weakly.

"But what if I don't let you mess it up? Jac your life has nearly been taken from you, and me in all honesty, so many times these past few years. And we still don't know for sure how much longer our luck will last for. We don't have time to waste." He pleaded. "You love me and I for sure as hell love you, so why can't we just be happy?"

"The fact that I don't know if I'll be around forever is all the more reason not to do this, Fletch. What about the kids? What if we lived happily ever after for a few years and then suddenly I drop down dead because my body can't take it anymore? I wouldn't want to put that on the kids after they've been through so much loss already."

"See, this is exactly what I mean. You're caring for my kids, you're looking out for me. Stop putting them and me first for once, and put us ahead for a change. Let me in, let me care for you, let me love you Jac." Fletch's face softened. "Plus, you know I won't ever stop trying to convince you now anyway. Especially after that grand confession."

Jac rolled her eyes, knowing it was the truth, and turned her face away from him. "Go back home Fletcher. I'll see you later."

"No." He stated simply, remaining in the seat beside her bed.

"What do you mean no? I'm presuming you left Evie in charge at home? You should be getting your arse moving to relieve her from the stress of being a mother to your other three children." She turned back to face him with a smirk.

"The stress of my children?" The man scoffed with a mock offended look. "There is nothing stressful about caring for my children I'll have you know."

"Oh and I suppose the grey hairs and wrinkles are a fashion choice then?" She retorted with a snort.

"Oi! I'm a hit with all the ladies, grey hairs, wrinkles, bald patches and all actually. But I guess you wouldn't know. You've obviously not been caught by the Fletcher Charm yet." His hand came up to flick imaginary hair from his shoulder dramatically.

"Mmm but the sincerest of "I love you" declarations wasn't enough evidence for you to tame it down a bit?"

"Is that an offer to take this piece of fine meat off the market I'm hearing?" He asked with a smirk, causing her to wrinkle her nose in disgust.

"You're so disgusting, Adrian."

"I love you too, Jacqueline." He reached forward and cupped her cheek as if she'd said something equally as meaningful.

"If we're going to do this, I want full privacy. I don't like gossip. And there will be ground rules." She warned, slowly closing the gap between their faces, gentle breaths fanning each other's cheeks.

"Anything for you Ms Naylor."
