Sophie stood in the park. She had for hours. It was pouring rain, but she didn't care. The storm gathered about her,  big and black and dark. Ready to burst.

That was the way Sophie felt too.

Thunder rolled and lightning cracked the sky as rain fell in torrents, but Sophie didn't notice.

Tears ran down her face and mingled with the rain and blood.

Blood.

She was never prepared, never ready. She was foolish.

The Neverseen kept taking and taking!

Sophie had nothing left to give.

Not that she'd let them take it-four members were dead and five seriously wounded. But the Neverseen had come away with the victory in the end because they had taken them all.

Biana, Fitz, Dex, Tam, Linh, and Wylie. Even Stina!

But for some reason, they left Keefe and Marella.

Keefe.

Sophie was sure that he was curled up somewhere, blaming himself. And she knew she needed to go help him, to tell him it wasn't his fault.

But she couldn't move.

The Neverseen wanted her, didn't they?

So they took and the took and they took and they took until only Sophie was left. Grady and Edaline? They were in hiding because no way was Sophie letting them be taken as well.

Sophie was going to turn herself in.

Regardless of her new power.

But right as she stepped into the beam of light cast by the crystal Lady Gisela had given her before the Neverseen had left, lightning splintered the sky, revealing a drenched figure.

"Don't leave," Keefe begged.
