Sophie's head snapped up. What's was she? Suddenly all the events of yesterday came flooding back.

Grady and Edaline.

Mr. Forkle.

Keefe.

For some reason her heart stuttered when she thought his name. But no.

Fitz.

Then the panic closed in.

Burned hands.

Brant.

Gethen.

Dex was going to die.

The cave.

Not. Again.

Sophie started to hyperventilate.

Breathe, girl. Breathe.

Lady Gisela strolled in. "I trust you are enjoying  your accommodations?"

How dare she? She knew what Sophie was going through!

Then again, angry, messed up, psychopathic evil people who want to take over the world probably aren't the people to expect sympathy in,  she reminded herself.

Sophie gathered her anger and inflicted it on Keefe's mom. It bounced off her head, deflecting onto the floor.

"I thought you would've learned by now, " Gethen snapped. "We can deflect your inflicting." He tapped the shiny metal circlet on his head.

Sophie gritted her teeth. "What do you want?"

"Want?" Lady Gisela asked, laughing. "I want many things. For my useless son to fulfill his legacy. To get over his foolish crush on you. For no more opposition against me. "

Crush? Sophie nearly laughed. What was she- the queen of obliviousness?

No.

Gisela was just trying to get inside her head, nothing more. Sophie would have noticed if Keefe liked her- it wasn't like she was that oblivious!

"But, since nothing comes easily, I only need you to cooperate and then I will release you."

The words 'release you' brought Sophie back from her thoughts.

"What do you want me to do?" she asked.

"I need you to inflict on me. I want it to be as much as you can," Gisela whispered.

"You what." Sophie didn't bother to phrase it like a question.

"Inflict. Then I'll let you go."

"But I can't inflict past your head gear!" Sophie protested.

"Oh, I have no doubt you can," Gethen sneered.

Her rage began to boil. Sophie reached deep into her heart, past the barriers and walls she'd put up around herself, and reached into the deepest wells of her emotions; pulling out the rawest, truest ones she could find.

Here goes nothing,  she thought.

This is for Keefe.

She let them loose on the woman, and Gisela collapsed. Strangely, so did everyone else within a twenty foot radius.

Sophie stood, trying to unknot the ropes around her hands.  In frustration, she banged her head on the wall, and a knife caught her attention. She crept over to Ray and stole the knife,  surprised at how quiet he'd been.

She quickly cut her bonds and raced for the door, fleeing the Neverseen and teleporting to freedom.

Sophie wasn't going down again.

The Neverseen were.
