❝ NOT SO SOFT
STARES ❞
Brenda's lips are curled into a scowl, hidden behind her mask, a heated glare pointed at the back of her mother's head. There's a fine line between mother and daughter bonding, and a hostage situation. She didn't want to be here, shopping with this woman, but it's almost as if the illusion of shit-promises compelled her to come with her.She promised her that she would make the family leave alone for a week or so. It were better if that week was changed to permanently, but she knew better than to hope for a pipe dream. It's easier to climb the highest mountain in the world with no gear and coat than to ever have these idiotic family leave her alone.
She really hasn't gotten an ounce of peace at home, nor at school.
"Holy hell," she mumbles. "I fucking hate this family."
"I have ears, Brenda."
"I'm not hiding my anger," Brenda deadpans, nose twitching in mild irritation. "It's a miracle that you haven't combusted on the spot from my glare, hag."
"Can you at least pretend to be happy?" Her mother ignores the insult as if it's a daily occurrence in her life, something like a peck of wind against her skin. "Or pretend to be interested?"
"Don't be more delusional," Brenda grimaces. "I don't need you people thinking I want to spend more time than necessary with y'all."
"Seriously?"
"Stupid question when you know the answer is always going to be a fucking hell-yes."
The older woman didn't bother to look at the girl, keeping her sights on the clothing as she looks around for an outfit, "Is that really a way to talk to your mother?"
"You're lucky that I'm allowing you to hear my voice," Brenda retorts, bluntly. If she had a choice of scarfing nails down her throat or speaking to her family again, she would pick eating the nails without a second thought.
Her mother pressed her lips together, halting her steps in the middle of the aisle, as she pinches the bridge of her nose and mumbles a few strings of words, likely cursing herself to be stuck in a situation that she created and had no control over. "Just look around, please."
"Ah, sending me off again? How typical," Brenda smirks, lazily. She knew what she was doing, an easy strike to her mother's emotions, as her eyes glimmer in sadism. The smirk is hidden behind her mask, but she's sure that as soon as she saw her eyes, she could tell what was stretched out on her lips.
