New girl

As I sit down, I hear my classmates whispering around me. I only manage to catch snippets of what they're saying, It seems they are all talking about the same thing.

"Hey, what is everyone talking about?" I ask Sage and Rory, my best friends since the fifth grade.

"Oh, haven't you heard?" Rory questions "There's a new girl joining our class" Sage adds.

Before I could get another word in, our professor, Mr. Danes clears his throat "Good morning students, I'm guessing you've heard the news. There's a new girl joining us today. Come on in Ivy."

"Ivy? As in poison Ivy?" I wonder quietly.

As I finish my sentence, I see her walk in. The sunlight warmed her dark skin, covering her with a faint glow, her curly hair only a tone darker than her skin. She was wearing doc martens, a good choice. As well as our school's uniform. Liberty Academy. A pathetic name for a boarding school, especially in New York.

As to break the silence, she finally speaks up. "Hello! My name is Ivy June and I am 16 years old" Oh, she's my age. As she walks up to me, I wonder if she'll say something to me, but instead she just sits down, not saying a word. I observe as she pulls her books out of, what seems to be a vintage messenger bag. We lock eyes, she noticed me staring.

"Oh! It's from my dad when he was younger"

"What?

"My bag...I noticed you staring at it"

"Oh! Yes, thank you!"
