I'm such a sucker for cute sibling and friend moments, and it really shows in this chapter-
Also, just a warning for Chad being weird.
"Hey, are you sure you can still do practice?" Jay asked, stopping him in the hall, "You're starving, and your leg only just healed."
"It's fine, Jay," Aziz sighed, "My leg doesn't hurt anymore."
There was still a dull pain in his leg, but it certainly hurt way less than earlier. At least now, he could walk without limping.
"Alright your leg is fine," Jay said, though he didn't sound like he believed him, "You still haven't eaten in a week."
"I've done practice in worse condition," Aziz said dismissively, "You stepped into this protective big brother role way too quickly."
"Well, it's easier when my little brother is being reckless," Jay said, rolling his eyes.
"It's better than sitting in my dorm all night," Aziz said, "It gets boring you know."
Aziz could see the disapproval in his eyes, but he shrugged, slinging an arm around his shoulders and leading him down the hallway.
"I'm going to ignore the fact that you've done these practices in a worse condition than this," Jay said, "And when we get there I'm going to tell coach that your leg was broken, and while Xavier healed it with his magic, we're still not sure if it's good to run on."
"Jay-"
"Don't argue," Jay said, cutting his protest off, "Now I'm not going to tell coach about you not eating for the last week, I know you probably don't want that getting around to people. Coach probably won't push it, but I will be telling him that if you insist that you're fine, you're lying, and you're really not."
"Jay-"
"Just sit on the bench with Xavier and I dunno talk or something, I don't know what you guys do."
"Jay, you really don't have to-"
"No, I really do."
Aziz let out a small huff, knowing that he wasn't going to be getting anywhere in this conversation. Jay was stubborn and persistent, which now that he thought about it, he probably got it from their mother.
He certainly got the 'I know what's best for you, don't argue with me' attitude from her.
"You know I'm only trying to help you, right?" Jay asked, glancing at him, "I only want to make sure that you're completely healed and healthy?"
"I know you do," Aziz sighed, "That doesn't mean I have to like it."
"You're so stubborn, and you push yourself too much," Jay said as they got outside to the field, "Now go wait with Xavier, I'll talk to coach."
Aziz nodded, though he did roll his eyes again, and went over to the bleachers where Xavier was reading something on his phone.
"Your boyfriends really annoying," He said, sitting next to them, catching a glimpse at Xavier's phone.
He was reading a text from an unknown number and from the few phrasings he was able to catch, he could tell it wasn't Ambrose.
"Yeah, but he's hot, so it's fine," Xavier said, shutting his phone off and pocketing it, "And besides, you're in no state to practice today."
"Oh, so you were in on it, huh?" Aziz asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I suggested it," Xavier said, looking up at him with exaggerated innocent eyes, "Please don't be upset. I mean, Jay seemed to like the idea."
As if Aziz could ever be upset with Xavier.
"I can take care of myself, Xavier," Aziz said after a moment, "I know my limits."
"Oh yeah because this week has been such a shining example of that," Xavier said rolling his eyes, "... Aziz, you really scared us."
"I'm sorry," He said, taking Xavier's hand in his, "I really didn't mean to."
"I know you didn't," He said, leaning against his arm
Aziz let him, watching as the rest of the team filed out of the locker room, the coach approaching the pair of them.
"Are you good to sit out today?" He asked.
"I doubt Jay and Xavier would be very happy if I don't," Aziz said, nodding over at Jay, "Especially that one."
"Alright," The coach said, patting his shoulder, "Get better quickly, will you? We can't only be relying on Jay for the game coming up."
"I'll be better by then, coach," He hummed, running a hand through Xavier's hair.
He nodded, walking back over to the rest of the team. Aziz had zoned out about halfway through watching them warm up, deciding to focus instead on playing with his friend's hair. He was so distracted, he didn't even notice one of his teammates approaching him.
"Injured, huh?" Chad asked, eyeing the pair of them.
"Yeah, these two are being all protective over me," He responded.
The texts from earlier flooded his head, bringing him to the conclusion that he'd rather be anywhere than talking to Chad. Xavier seemed to be able to sense this, and he sat up quickly.
"Hey, why did you block me?" Chad asked, "I was just asking to meet up with me."
"Yeah, you and Ambrose," Aziz said, glancing behind him, wondering just how quickly he could make his way higher up on the bleachers.
"You're really going to sit here and act like you don't want it?" Chad said, raising an eyebrow, "Come on, we all know you're a whore."
"I'm not a whore," Aziz forced out, doing his best to keep his voice level.
"I don't think I've ever been with someone from Agrabah before," He hummed, eyeing Aziz as if he were a meal.
"Leave him alone, Chad," Xavier snapped, now on his feet.
"Or what?" He asked, "What are you gonna do if I don't, genie?"
Xavier eyed him for a moment before his eyes flashed blue. In an instant, Chad was thrown across the field, hitting the ground pretty hard. The rest of the team looked between them but decided that they should just continue on with their practice, an amused look in their eyes.
Well, Jay looked amused at least.
"Thanks Xavier," Aziz said when he sat back down, "You didn't have to."
"I know, but he was being so gross," He said scrunching his nose, "'I don't think I've ever been with someone from Agrabah before' Dude that's one statement away from saying that you're 'exotic'."
"It wasn't that bad," He said with a shrug, "I've heard worse from both him and Ambrose."
"Well he shouldn't be bugging you for a while," Xavier said, going back to leaning against Aziz, "Well come on, get back to playing with my hair."
"Oh god, you're worse than Ozzy," Aziz said, rolling his eyes.
Despite his 'complaint' Aziz went back to messing with his hair, a soft smile playing at his lips.
"Thank you again."
"Anytime."
