t/w for swearing, mentions of a boss being a creep

Steven needed to go to the store, though he didn't want to go to just anystore. Those big chain supermarkets seemed like way too much pressure, especially with what was now happening. It really wasn't all that much, and he still wasn't totally sure he wasn't losing his mind, but he didn't need Marc to come out when he was in the middle of asking an employee where the milk was. Actually, he just didn't want Marc to come out in general.

There were too many people, too many noises and lights, and too many bustling of strangers in those big supermarkets. He would surely freak out at one point and it would probably go sideways. And so, he decided to go to a corner store. Corner stores had food, or enough food that he could keep going until he could summon enough courage to go and see lots of people, right? He sure hoped so.

As he made his way to the small shop he nervously twiddled the hem of his shirt between his fingers, trying to stay calm. Not, not trying- he wascalm. He was just going to the store. It would all be very easy.

He entered the store and heard the ring of the door, then glanced around to check how many people were wandering about. Aside from the cashier -who was currently on their phone- there was no one else.

Steven took an extra second to look at the cashier, as they were paying him no attention even though the bell rang and signalled his presence. They were wearing a shirt with the shops logo on it and a ball cap over their unruly hair that looked like they had just given up on it. It looked cute, though. Not that bad. Not that disheveled.

They were looking down at their crotch with a frown - you didn't have to be a genius to know that they were on their phone under the counter. Whatever they were frowning at was probably the reason for the lack of attention towards Steven, though he wasn't complaining. He instead moved his gaze away from the worker before it became creepy, then began to walk the smaller space.

As Steven wandered he grabbed a paper shopping list from his pocket and looked it over. With a small smile he thought of how okay this entire experience was going. Then, sadly, it all fell apart.

It fell apart quite quickly.

He had circled back to the front of the small shop. He was checking his list once again and not paying attention to his surroundings. Then, he walked into a shelf. A shelf that wobbled because it wasn't screwed down. The objects on the shelf fell, and his expression changed from one of achievement to one of horror as he bent down to avoid being hit with falling objects. He was lucky there weren't any glass jars.

Finally the cashier looked up and away from their phone too see what happened.

"Bloody hell, that's a real mess up, in'nit? I didn't mean t' do that. I really am sorry."

Steven looked to the side at what he knocked over, then moved down from his half crouched position towards the objects that laid scattered on the ground.

"Lemme fix these all nice real quick. Bugger off before you have t' kick me out for obstruction of property or somethin'. That's a law, yeah? I think that's a law. If it's not I'm sure there's one like it that I don't wanna be charged with."

As Steven spoke to try and fill the silence in the room he shoved everything -rather poorly- back on the shelf. When done he stood and wiped his hands off on his pants, then took a step back. The cashier, y/n, just stood there watching. They were amused by the situation in front of them, even if Steven seemed to be extremely embarrassed at the ordeal.
