The next time I woke up, a cold breeze blew over my face. With the breeze came everything that had happened: the mysterious voice and what he had said, me falling to my death, the freezing lake water seeping into my clothes. I groaned and refused to open my eyes.
Please let this be a dream. When I open my eyes, I will be in my bed, in my apartment, in Ireland and none of this will have ever happened, I prayed in my thoughts.
I heard a woman giggling near me and said "Dream on, Prophecy Boy."
Prophecy Boy? What was that supposed to mean? I slowly opened my eyes and sat up on the cold ground. Just a few meters ahead of me, there was a young woman, sitting at the lake. Her back was facing me, so I couldn't see her properly. She seemed to be wearing a white dress. Her long blonde hair gently swayed as the wind blew into her hair. She turned her head, her blue eyes sparkled. She smiled at me and gestured to sit next to her. I didn't move a muscle. She rolled her eyes and said "C'mon, I won't bite."
I hesitated, but then stood up and started to walk towards her. I didn't realize that I had the wings until I heard the feathers brushing against each other. You would think that wings are heavy, but actually they aren't as heavy than you think. Well you know what they say; they're as light as a feather. Anyway, I sat down beside the woman and asked
"Can you please tell me what's going on?"
She looked at me and -instead of answering my question- stated "You're not very good at flying, are you?" I blinked in confusion.
"What?"
"I said: you're not very good at flying, are you?" She repeated.
"Well, I've never really tried it before!" I defended, then quickly mumbled "And I'm scared of heights." She nodded her head.
"I suppose, but I bet I'm better at it than you!"
"Wait, you can fly?" I asked. At this point, I was extremely confused. First, she called me 'Prophecy Boy', then she didn't answer my question. Now, she is saying that she can fly?
"Are you serious?" I asked.
"Yeah! Don't believe me?" she challenged.
"No, not really. Besides, you don't have any wings," I replied.
"So? You don't need wings to be able to fly!" she said, standing up. She took a small breath and opened her palms that faced the ground. She looked like she was focusing, but not too hard. Within a few seconds, she had started to hovered a few inches off the ground, then a few meters, then high in the sky. My neck craned as I looked up in shock.
"Okay! You've proven your point! Now, please can you come down?!" I shouted to her. She flew a little bit more, doing flips and cartwheels in the air. She looked at me, then answered
"Only if you catch me!"
"C'mon! Are you serious? I just told you that I can't fly!" I shouted.
"That's 'cause you've only tried once," she replied.
"And look at what happened to me!"
"Just, give it a chance," she encouraged. "Sure, I'll help you, if you want!" she added, making her way down to the ground.
I huffed, then reluctantly said "Alright, fine." I added "But, if I almost die, I will sue you!" as a joke. Thankfully she laughed and said "Don't worry, you're not gonna die, Prophecy Boy." Before I forgot, I asked "By the way, why do you call me that?"
"Call you what?" she said, her head slightly tilted.
"Prophec-" I started but something else had got my attention.
I heard something coming from the forest. I turned my head to the direction of the sounds. There were noises not far from where we were standing. Male voices, maybe five men. And footsteps. I could hear one of them complaining about something, then the voice changed to a deeper, annoyed tone.
He said "You can when we find this god-damn angel! Then, you can do whatever you want with the reward!"
The footsteps were coming closer and closer. I could almost make out the figures through the thick wood. I turned back to her, but she looked worried, even scared.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I have to go," she whispered and she started to walk away.
"Wait," I grabbed her arm before she could walk anymore. "I don't know your name. And will I see you again?" I whispered.
She sighed and answered "My name is Grace. And trust me, we will see each other again, Jack." She put something in my hoodie pocket and shook off my hand before running away into the forest.
Grace, I thought, but then thought of something else. I had never told her my name. So how did she know my name?
"Wait, Grace! Come back!" I called. She didn't turn around.
"There he is, boys! Get him!" I turned around and find five men, charging at me. I was still as confused as all hell. Why were this guys doing this? I gasped, sharply turned around and started to sprint for my life.
