You told me to witness
Glory at its highest,
As you marched the colony
Into the battlefield with harmony.
You were their leader
Yet they were your equal,
And together you rose
Destroying the enemy’s steeple
So tell me,
Why is it that now I see
An enemy before me
Who is also a friend to me?
He doesn’t stand, he leans
Against the wall, unclean
No longer energetic
Not even worthy of the emphatic
You once stood before god on the highest mountain
Drank before lions from the purest fountain
Ran into battle with just a sword
Striking the enemy at its core
But now you’ve fallen
Deep into the darkness
Where no such person
Holds light in their harness
You don’t appear beaten
Has the pain deepened
To a point where it’s a burden
That’s brought you to ruin
Your hands shake
Can you wield a sword?
Your knees ache
Can you walk in armor?
I won’t strike you down
You’re already on the ground
It’s no longer pathetic
Neither is it sympathetic
This feeling is compressed
You won’t even stand and be suppressed
By my sword to your flesh
And return the warmth of honor to your cold chest
So you will continue to wither
Within the darkness
Without the slightest glimmer
Forever blind…'til the end of time.
