Wagging your tail was not something that was widely accepted anymore.
Some still did it, occasionally, when around someone they loved or had very strong feelings for, but for the most part people tend to hide it. (Btw, humans don't exist in this book)
Moe had done it, A LOT. Nick would always tease him about it, but in reality he loved how the wolf would only do it when he was around him.
Being touch deprived for so long really took a toll on Moe. Even the slightest hug from an old "lady" that he didn't even know made him explode with euphoria.
But did he really have to wag his tail at the exact moment he saw Nick? If him staring at the fox wasn't embarrassing enough, now he had to explain why his tail was wagging at a mile a minute.
Ever since the separation his bed always felt, empty. The fox didn't take up much space, and they never needed a bigger bed, staying with a single for most of their relationship, almost fading into each other and taking up as much room as only one person would.
Nick was his, a thing to protect, he loved that, made him feel like he had a purpose, like this whole hustle thing wasn't for nothing, it was for him.
After Nick left, he had a really hard time adjusting to normal everyday life, not working normally had it's toll on him.
Everyday he and Nick would work together, doing many different things, but no mater what, they were together. And then Nick wasn't there, it wasn't an easy transition.
He sighed. He couldn't fall asleep, his room felt even emptier than normal. Wagging his tail made him realize how much he actually missed Nick. And that was not a good thing.
*******
Water, darkness, and pain pills. Back when they lived together, at the beginning of their relationship. Nick would wake up to horrible nightmares.
Some about his past, others about things he was scared to happen in the future, but whatever the case was, Moe was always there to lull him back to sleep. Holding him protectively against his chest, his tail wrapping around his body, like a mom protecting her babies.
Just the thought of it made Nick smile.
Water, darkness, and pain pills. His head was throbbing, his sight was blurry, but he needed to go back to sleep. He was, for once in his life, stable and he wouldn't let it go, just cause his emotional mood swings decided to pay him a visit.
"Nick?" A voice shook him out of his daydream. He turned to look at the small, sleepy bunny, coming out of her bedroom and into the kitchen.
"Hey Carrots." He whispered quietly. She rubbed her eyes.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"I just had a nightmare." Taking the pill in his hand, putting it in his mouth, and drinking some water, he put the cup in the sink, and started to walk back to his room, before a hand stopped him.
"I'm here for you, okay? If you need to talk about something, I'm a good listener." Judy said worriedly, her ears dropping behind her. Nick smiled at her.
"Alright, Carrots. Promise to tell you if anything's bothering me." He said. Judy smiled up at him and nodded.
"Goodnight, Nick!" She whisper screamed as she entered her room.
Nick entered his room with a smile, that quickly faded into a slight frown, as he stared into his small room. He didn't have many things, just a small bed, two small bookshelves, and a desk.
He sighed quietly, laying back in bed and staring at the wall in front of him.
"Goodnight, Judy" he whispered to himself quietly, but he couldn't sleep. Not without thinking of his Wolf at least.
"Ahh, Moe. You're doing it to me again." He muttered. He felt a small wet heat appear on his cheek, and before he knew it he was crying slightly.
He sniffled before getting one of his pillows and hugging it tightly, crying into it.
He was never one for strong emotions, emotional attachments just made things harder in the long run, and ever since he left his wolf he promised himself he wouldn't cry.
But just for tonight, the night on which he saw one of his old memories, a few tears wouldn't hurt.
*******
"Hey, Moe. We should get back to sleep, don't you think?" Snake asked quietly. He had found the wolf sleep-walking in the early hours of the morning.
"Hmm? Oh yeah, maybe we should." Moe said quietly. It was kinda creepy, seeing such a tall animal walking around while not being fully conscious. Snake had seen him do this a few other times, many years ago though, he only really did it when they failed at stealing something.
He'd have to ask him about it later, but for now he was just scared that Moe would do something dangerous.
Leading the tall wolf to his bed, he pushed him down a bit so he would finally lay, but when he was about to leave a hand forced him to a fault. Or rather a paw.
"Please don't go." Moe said, he looked like he was on the verge of tears. It kinda freaked Snake out. He had never seen him like this.
"It's time to sleep, Wolf. We have to go to sleep alright?" Snake said, in a voice you would use to talk to a five year old.
Then the tears started sliding down Moe's face and Snake was REALLY worried then.
"Okay, okay." He slowly sat down on the chair by Moe's bed. "I'll stay here until you fall asleep okay?"
Moe looked at him dissatisfied, but nodded nonetheless. "Okay." He slowly pulled the blankets over himself, and after a couple minutes Snake went to check if he was asleep.
Sighing in relief, Snake slowly left the room, and entered his bedroom.
Now it had been some time since Snake had witnessed that, and his mind and memories might still be foggy, but he was pretty sure that the only time Moe would get scared about people leaving him was when he was thinking about Nick.
Might just be a theory though. The snake thought as he slowly slid into unconsciousness.
