"Momma?" Sierra whispered as she quietly tip toed into her parents room "momma?" she whispered a little louder as she reached her mother and grabbed her sleeve.

"Hmmm?" came her mother's voice just loud enough for her to hear but not loud enough to wake her father.

"I can't sleep momma, can you tell me a story please." Sierra quietly whined. Sierra heard her mother sigh and then the small rustle of her moving the blankets away. Sierras mother picked her up carrying her back to her own room.

"Okay little one I'll tell you one story but that's it then you have to go to bed promise?" Sierras mother held out her pinkie to her little daughter

Sierra giggled then took her pinkie looping it with her mothers. "Promise momma one story," Sierra said with a yawn.

"Once upon a time..." her mother started.

"Once upon a time there was a small village of mermaids and among the mermaids was the most beautiful and cherished Chiefs daughter. She was said to have the voice of an angel and could summon the water to her will with just her voice.

The Chief loved his daughter though he had many sons he would only dote on his beloved daughter. For a long time he hid her amongst his tribe as other mermaid villages existed and came to the village from time to time. The Chief hid her like a precious gem in plain sight afraid her power to control the water would cause to much attention.

As the daughter grew older she grew more and more beautiful and eventually the Chief could no longer hide her. So he decided to introduce her to his most trusted military captain. He was young and handsome and the very definition of a prince charming to all his people. It didn't take long for the Chiefs daughter to fall for the military captain.

The Chiefs daughter quickly married the military captain. The Chiefs was happy because he knew his daughter would now be protected from those who might try to keep her for her gift if it ever came to light. A year after the marriage of the Chiefs daughter and the military captain were blessed with twin girls. It wasn't long before they realized their twin daughters shared their mothers gift but they were much much stronger.

As the twin girls grew older their powers grew stronger at only two an evil sea witch caught on to the girls powers and began to seek out a way to get to the girls. The Chiefs daughter and the military captain were worried for their daughters safety and after a close call of the evil sea witch nearly taking off with one of the girls the parents realized they needed to devise a plan.

The girls were separated and taken to different places the powers seemed to lessen in strength when the girls were not together. The military captain took one girl with him and brought her to his army camp where she would be guarded and eventually trained to protect herself. But the Chiefs daughter could not fight and only seen one possiblity that would keep both girls the safest she took her daughter to the land of the humans where the girls could not use her powers.

Years have gone by and the Chief and military captain are still hunting for the evil sea witch. Hoping against all odds that he will find and destroy her so that his family may be reunited. And so it is said that one day the girl from another world will return whether her parents succeed or fail and it will decide the fate of all of the world. " Sierras mother finished the story she had repeated to her daughter every night for the last three years.

Looking down at little Sierra the mother seen she was resting peacefully always falling asleep before the story ended. Sierras mother sighed, "One day little one we will go home and finally be reunited with your father and sister."

Sierras mother slowly walked back to her room to see her husband up. "You tell Sierra her story again tonight?" Sierras father asked.

"Yes and like always she fell asleep before the end." Sierras mother sighed frustrated, " I miss Mitch, Liam Sierra needs to know her real father not that I mind her calling you dad but," Sierras mother let out a long sigh. "Well, you know."

"I know Mira one day Mitch will call for you and I will bring you, I swear, I will always protect you and Sierra even if it means protecting Sierras feelings, for now I'm her dad." Liam stated and put his hand over his heart and bowed his head. A symbol of his loyalty to Mira and her family a reminder that she was still the Chiefs daughter even in this world.

"I only hope that Sierra won't hate us when she learns the truth. It won't be long before she realizes we aren't like other married couples in this world," Mira said laying down and covering herself back up.

"I am sure she will understand that we only did what we had to in order to protect her Sierra is very smart and even more so kind she will forgive us. All of us," Liam said shutting off the light and covering himself. It wasn't long before he heard Miras soft breathing signifying she had fallen asleep. "Please hurry Mitch, Mira is slowly dieing without you I don't know how much longer she can hold on without you," Liam silently prayed and with that he rolled over and fell asleep too.
