"Miss Enclave why have you plead not guilty when you so obviously harbour negative feelings for your brother in law?"
"Objection Your Honor I believe the prosecution is trying to entrap my client!" I wouldn't have answered that bald assholes question anyway.
I know that you are not supposed to lie under oath, and I even swore on the Bible but I hope Jesus forgives me for all that I have done. Not just because I want to go to heaven, but also because if I go to hell, Marcus will be there. I'm just glad that I don't have to look at his face now. And if I am being honest with myself I'm glad that the fucker is dead.
"I'm sorry Your Honor that was out of line. Miss Enclave the night of your arrest you called the cops and told your arresting officer that you had killed your Brother-in-law Marcus Howard because, and I quote," The dick prosecutor paused to clear his throat, then dramatically looked to the jury. "The bastard deserved it, and a whole lot more he should feel lucky I ended it when I did," turning back to me with his unibrow raised he finished his question. "Is that right?"
Looking out at the court room full of people my gaze zeroed in on my sister sitting next to my mother, her arm was cast free and she was holding a bubbly and bright Tristan on her lap. Just looking at Tristan quietly playing with his toy truck, without the shadow of sleepless nights appearent underneath his eyes I realized that what had been done was done. And I didn't regret a single one of my actions.
So looking back at the unimpressive face of the man who was trying to send me to jail I answered without a hint of remorse, "Yes, yes I did say that."
"So why are we here today Miss Enclave?"
"I believe it is in your job description to prove me guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Now maybe its just me who thinks this or maybe not but, you must not be very good at your job if you have to ask me what we are doing here today." the jury must have found somethimg funny about a 16 year old girl demeaning a grown man in a room full of his colleagues, because I could see some of them trying to cover up their chuckles by coughing into their arms.
The Judge, obviusly hardened by years on the job slammed his gavel down demanding silence from everyone.
Then he looked down on me just like everyone else who has handled my case and sneered, "Try to refrain using sarcasm. This is a court room and things are meant to be taken seriously here. And Mr. Johnston get to the point. Quickly! Or I will have the defendant step down."
So feeling shunned I nodded my head mutely.
"Yes thank you Your Honor. Miss Enclave you stated that you haven't seen your sister since the Fall of 2013, is that correct?"
"Yes that is correct." I had learned since the beggining of the trial to answer in clear and complete sentences, after being told countless times that muttering was not appropriate, by people who clearly despised me.
I thought I experienced real hate when I found out what Marcus had done. But if you want to feel real hate, try being a teenage murder suspect to the nephew of a local hero. Not to mention that Marcus's Aunt was the D.A..
I just thank the lord that she couldn't try my case because conflict of interest. It was safe to say though that I was pretty much screwed since everyone in this shitty ass town knew everyone. But like I said I have no regrets.
"Nothing further." I watched as the bitch who was representing me stood up and prepared to ask me a question, in a pantsuit two sizes to small for her. The only reason I call her a bitch is because she tried to get me to make a plea bargain before she even asked for my side of the story. Alredy having preconcived notions about my innocence. Stupid bitch.
I should've killed her too. Haha, jk, lol.
............
Maybe it's still to soon to be making murder jokes.
"Miss Enclave had your sister ever expressed any concern for her health?"
"No she didn't. And growing up with Abby and her mild form of epilepsy, I can tell you it never made her hurt herself bad enough to to need a cast. It also never put holes in the wall or-"
"Objection!"
"Sustained. Answer the question you were asked and only that question. Control your client Mrs.Gibbs."
I have just decided that I officially dislike lawyers, judges or anyone else that has anything to do with the justice system of America.
"Yes sir. Miss Enclave what of your nephew?" And this is why I call her 'that bitch', she told me that she would try to refrain from bringing up Tristan and here she just flat out asks me about him. Now that she brought him up the proseecutor could now ask about Tristan. And you know what they say, you know a lawyer is lying when his lips are moving. And Mr. Johnston is probably the second slimiest man I had ever met. Second only to Marcus. So I couldn't be completley sure what kind of tales he would spin with my nephew now in play.
"What about my nephew?"
"When the EMT's responded to the call you were covered in blood. Is that correct?"
"Yes."
"But not just your brother-in-laws blood, but your own as well. Is it also true that you had a concussion, three broken ribs, and your right index phalange was nearly removed?" I looked down to the pale white circular scar nearly surrounding my finger, and I couldn't help but remember the pain I had felt when I noticed that my finger was falling off. Then I remember the anger I was overcome with when I realized that Marcus had caused my family more pain. Something that I swore he would never be able to do when I found out he was hitting my sister.
"Yes."
"Yet you told them to check on your sister and nephew first?"
"Yes I did."
"And why is that?"
I feel like a broken record up here. "I told them to check on Tristan and Abby because they where being abused by a grown man. Does that answer your question?" I looked over to the jury and made eye contact with a small black woman who had a kind face.
"And I felt that my pain couldn't even amount to half of what my sister and my little nephew had been through."
