She knew she should have tried to rest before it was time, time to abandon her life. Betray her soul mate. But how could she? There were too many doubts swirling within her mind, thick as smoke threatening to cloud her judgement. He always did this to her. He made her eat away at her own conscience until all she could do was drown in his perfect ice-blue eyes, wanting nothing more then to be near him, to love him, to feel his love for her. This time she had chosen to put others before her happiness, there was no going back.

She stared up at the dark ceiling, willing confidence and bravery to soak into her very bones. It was now or never.

The night was still. Black and white and soundless... dead. She tiptoed across the landing of the large farm house to the room next to hers. He had always wanted her close; she always wanted to be close.

She cracked the bedroom door open letting the moonlight from the window in his room spill into the hallway. Hesitating only for a second, she slowly made her way to his bedside. He looked so peaceful while he slept, so innocent. She ran her hand gently through his dark tousled hair, careful not to wake him. How could someone so perfect, so capable of love be so, so... - no. NO. She wouldn't get into this now, she couldn't. Konan would have the carriage ready and waiting anxiously outside, already doubting her ability to finish this. After all, she had been the one to convince Konan to let her do this, that this had to be done by her hand alone. She wasn't sure she could live with herself after this, but the thought of someone else clutching the steel blade in her hands was too frightening to comprehend.

"I'll love you forever; with every breathe, every beat of my heart. There will only ever be you," she whispered softly.

She took a moment to soak up his features, his smell. To permanently stamp them into her memory so they would last forever. Tears spilled freely down her cheeks.

"I'm so sorry William," she breathed.

With that she plunged the dagger straight into his heart.
