"Rorz!"

Something was poking me.

"Aurora wake up!"

My eyes shot open; alert and ready to face whatever dangers await, only to be met by a disgruntled looking Jake.

"You slept out here all night?" he asked, disbelief lacing his voice.

"Yes," I snapped, "You know how I prefer being outside." To be perfectly honest, I was more annoyed at the pain in my neck then anything Jacob had said.

"Whatever," he said rolling his eyes, "just get up and get ready, we have to set off for school in an hour."

I eyed his perfectly sculpted blonde hair and dark jean clad legs, "how long have you been up exactly?"

"Long enough. Just get ready!" With that he turned on his heel and left me alone on the balcony.

I huffed and puffed while getting dressed into a wool dress, complaining to myself about the inconvenience of school. It was nice to be alone in my room, not having to plaster a smile on my face and look pleased. I had the depressing feeling that no matter how hard I tried, the normal life I'd always wanted would forever be out of reach. Still, I promised myself I'd at least try and relate to my new classmates, even if that meant acting like boy troubles were the biggest problem life had dealt me.

I hurried down the stairs, pulling on a leather jacket as I opened the door. Jacob was already outside leaning against the hood of his newly sprayed black 1968 Barracuda. His pride and joy.

"Thank god! I was beginning to think you'd gone back to sleep again."

I stuck my tongue out at him, "Just get in the car!"

The ride to school was short but uncomfortable, the sharp smell of iron was making my head spin. I cracked a window despite the chilly air outside to try and rid myself of the strench that seemed to be soaking into my clothes. Iron didn't have a physical effect on me like it did with full faeries, but that didn't mean that being enclosed within a moving cage of it was a pleasant experience.

As Jacob pulled the car into the school parking lot we were already gathering many looks of interest. Even after attending hundreds of Highschools, I still felt that bubble of nervousness and anticipation brewing within my stomach. Jacob on the other hand was grinning from ear to ear, clearly basking in the attention we were already recieving.

He shifted his gaze to my worried face, "Don't look so nervous Aurora. You should be used to this by now."

"I'll be fine... I always feel out of place at first. It makes me wish more than ever to be one of them, ignorant to the world outside of Highschool drama."

He nodded his head in agreement and pulled into one of the few parking spaces left at the front of the school. The school itsself was a basic three-storey brick building, roughly the size of a small soccer field. It wasn't anything spectacular and looked rather new compaired to the antiquated feel the rest of the town held. As I stepped out of car, I ignored all the curious eyes and averted my gaze to the edge of the woods on the lefthand side of the school. Immediately my body relaxed and all the tension I'd been feeling melted away, replaced by a soothing heat that spread from the very tips of my toes all the way up my body. I had the instinctive urge to go and explore the vast miles of oak and pine trees.
