Picture of Lola ---->

Lola's eyes were darting between me a Ben, a look of pure confusion stamped on her face.

"Stop being such an ass and quit messing around Ben. Who are you really here for?" she snapped.

Ben gave her a look of distain, "Lola... is that peroxide finally seeping into your brain? I just told you, I'm here to pick up Aurora."

I stood routed to the spot, looking for a way out of this awkward moment. Lola managed to catch my eye, silently pleading for me to explain.

I let out a small sigh, "I met Ben yesterday, he was working in the bookshop. We got talking and he offered to show me around the town properly today." I finished with a slight shrug hoping she wouldn't read into this too much.

Lola's eyes widened slightly as she finally put the pieces together, "oh... can I erm, can I just talk to Ben for a moment Aurora?"

I nodded my head and turned on my heel to see Jake patiently waiting by his car. An expressionless mask set on his face.

"What's all that about?" he asked, pointing a finger in the general direction of Lola and Ben.

"That's Lola's brother, Ben." I confirmed.

Some of the tension left Jacob's face, "That's alright then."

I studied Jake, he had a goofy grin on his face; the polar opposite of his facial expression when I first walked over to him.

"Jacob... do you like Lola?"

"What?! No of course not... I mean yeah I like her as a friend but I don't like... like her. She's cute, anybody can see that. I've only known her a day!" Jacob's face was slightly flushed and he had the distinct look of a deer caught in the headlights. Well this was new, I didn't think I'd ever see a girl ruffle Jacob's feathers.

"Sure, you keep telling yourself that," I laughed.

Jacob said nothing, just sat brooding on the hood of his car.

"I met him yesterday... Ben I mean, in the bookshop. He's going to show me around the town today," I told him.

Jacob's head snapped in my direction.

"Do you really think that's a good idea Rory? You don't even know this guy! You can't go running around with guys you don't know and what if he finds out what you are?"

"How you done with your little rant?" I scowled. "Seriously Jacob, I'll be fine, I'm a big girl. Sometimes I think you forget that I'm actually a hundred years older then you. This is what I want Jake... to do normal things, to feel normal. And part of being normal is having friends."

"You might be a hundred years older then me but I'm still stronger Aurora, you might not be able to handle yourself if something happens," he replied sharply.

"You're only stronger because I can't access my full power without Them sensing it. And if I remember correctly Jacob, you've lost control and shifted in front of people before. I've never lost control of my powers, never showed anything but normalcy," I spat.

Jacob looked like he'd taken a physical blow. I knew he was sensitive about the days when he lacked control over his shifting, yet I brought it up anyway. What was wrong with me? When had I become so petty and bitter?

Most of my anger seeped away as soon as I realised I'd taken things too far, "Jake... I'm so sor-"

"Okay Aurora! My bro's waiting for you, we're done talking," Lola chirped behind me.
