I walked into the den staring at the floral mosaic curtains. The sun stained the room and silence flooded our ears. Dad sat in his rocking chair as my prescence went unnoticed. As usual he had been watching channel 45, nothing but endless static. As I took another step the floor creaked and he turned his head my way,

"Crystal!" He said excidetly, "There's my little girl."
"Hey dad." I hugged him softly.
"Dinners ready." He said with a grin.
"Dad its only 4:00?"
"Times a waistin' " I walked over to my seat and sat across from him. Although I noticed another place set from the corner of my eye, dad walked in placing a plate of food in front of me, by his chair, and by... Moms. We said grace and then began eating , ever so quietly. The only noise coming from the room was the clanking of our forks. But the fact that dad had set moms place tickled my spine and unglued my bones. I couldn't help it anymore it just, bothered me.

"Dad." He continued to eat and three minutes later he responded,
"Yes dear?"
"Why.. Er did you set the extra table space?" He sat in silence for a few seconds.
"For your mother of course !" I saw his hand shaking so I quickly cupped it with mine,
"Daddy," I said with a crack in my voice, "She's gone." I swallowed. He stared into my green eyes and whispered, "You look just like her." I still stared at him for a few moments and then I got up to empty her dish into the trash,
"What are you doing!" He shouted angrily standing up,
"I'm.. Just emptying this into the trash.." I scooped the bread into the garbage and he lunged at me pushing me onto the ground,
"That was her favorite!" Steam blew from his ears.
"She's gone dad!" I shouted back,
"No she's not." He slapped me, "She told me she was coming back for me!" I let out a few tears and struggled to get up. I then ran upstairs into the bathroom. Looking into the clear mirror I touched the scratch on my cheekbone and noticed blood on my fingers. I looked down to wash my hands and when I looked into the mirror. I saw.. Her. She smiled and giggled about, but when I turned to face her, her figure disintegrated.
