As It Was: Chapter One
I want you to hold out the palm of your hand

༺ . ༻

Ricky hated to admit it, but Megara was right.

After all that moaning and groaning about Lily being a total flake and complete pain in her behind, the curly-haired boy's rose-colored glasses had been knocked off swiftly in a matter of seconds.  Despite Megara seeing through her facade from the beginning, Ricky had to learn the hard way.

He always had to learn the hard way.

After slamming the palm of his hand against the wheel of his car a couple of times, he finally landed on a solid thought — a name.  And it was the name of the one young woman's voice he'd been hearing in his head for the past ten minutes, the one much kinder yet still stern in reminding him; "I told you so."

He may not have wanted to admit that she was right, but he had to admit he felt like he needed to see her.

Fortunately, the directions to Megara's house had been imprinted into his brain before he was even able to pronounce her name (but if you brought up the phase where Ricky only referred to her as "mouse", she'd pretend she had no idea what you were talking about).  It took him not long at all to get there, but once he parked his orange buggy outside, he realized he wasn't even sure what it would be that he'd say to her.  He guessed he'd figure it out once he saw her.

The rings on his fingers suddenly felt heavy as he opened his car door, taking large deep breaths in as he assessed the situation in the house.  It didn't seem like Mr. Montez was home at all, but he still aimed towards her bedroom window just in case.

Since the beginning of the last year when Megara came back into his life full speed, he'd made her bedroom window his chosen form of communication when dropping by her house.  It wasn't like he was proud of it — he knew how cliche and cheesy it looked to anyone with a set of eyes.  He knew Mr. Montez liked him enough that he could get away with using the front door, but sometimes in his most vulnerable moments he didn't have moments to waste breath on trying to explain why Megara had to be the person he needed to see.  Proving it was still his worst habit, he picked up a rock from her front yard and tried to toss it toward her bedroom window as softly as possible from where he was standing.

Since his first throw didn't garner much attention, he kept this going for another five minutes — roughly.

Her house looked different during the day than at night but still managed to feel welcome all the same.  The look on Mr. Montez's face, however, was not.

Ricky couldn't have been more surprised when the white-outlined window pane was pressed open by Mr. Montez's large hand, the rest of his intimidating body showcasing itself behind Megara's sheer purple curtains which he pushed back with ease.
