With the death of his mother in 1988 and the disappearance of his brother James Marcus Quill searches for years for his brother, he meets Natasha Romanoff, only to lose her. He buries himself in his research he started as a child, close to being one...
The day after, Natasha went to Marcus' house after suspension. He'd probably be out for the rest of the school year since they got out in June.
She knocked on the door and Jason answered it. "Oh, hello Natasha" She smiles nervously "Hi Mr. Quill, I came to check on Marcus. Can I talk to him?" He smiles "Yeah of course but he's grounded, so make it quick" He calls Marcus from out of his room and he's surprised to see who's at the door.
Marcus smiles, walking out the door and surprisingly Natasha hugs him. He hadnt gotten one of these kind of hugs in years, he breathes out hugging the redhead back. "Care to take a walk with me?" She asks and he chuckles then looks back at his grandpa who nods. "Sure" the two walk around the neighborhood "Thanks for sticking up for me" a bit of pink finds its way to Marcus' cheeks.
"It's fine, my brother did that for me years ago" He rolls his head back grunting realizing what he just said, Natasha raises an eyebrow interested. "Your brother? I thought you were an only child?" She chuckles but Marcus looks down at the ground tapping his foot. "Yeah no I'm not doing this" he shakes his head trying to determine if he should tell her or not. "Just tell me already!" She teased "No!" He yells surprising Natasha.
She flinches and starts to walk away, Marcus realizes what he did and stops her "My real name is James, I had a brother" Peter he thought before continuing "He disappeared after our mom passed, we were supposed to come here, both of us to live with grandpa but they couldn't find him. So I spend most of my time in my room researching and trying to find him" He explains before trying to continue.
A tear slips down his eye thinking about his older brother as It starts to rain. Natasha was quick to comfort him, wiping his tears and hugs "I used to call him Star Lord...and he called me Storm, not a day goes by that I wish I had chased after him when he ran out that door, IDIOT!" He throws a huge rock across the field. Natasha stares sadly in shock, feeling bad for asking about his brother. He drops to his knees and starts sobbing as his hair gets wet.
Natasha hugs him tighter as he sobs "Why didn't I stop him?" He says. "It wasn't your fault" She says rubbing his back, she wasn't used to comforting people or caring.
Marcus' breath picks up, gasping for air "I-I can't breath" a panic attack, he got them often, "shhh it's okay, your here, your safe" She says.
The two's relationship only blossomed from there on, they spent every day together, they even had nicknames, Jay and Sunshine.
December 3rd 1994, Ohio
Marcus hid behind the door of Natasha's room waiting for her to come in, they hadnt seen each other in 2 months because of the special school Jason sent Marcus to. It was Natasha's 10th birthday, she walked into the room and Marcus popped out "Sunshine!" She flinches and He dies out laughing "Jay?!" She smiles hugging him after he gets off the floor.
"Let me formally do this.." He pulls away and gets on his knees, Natasha furrows her eyes in confusion "Sunshine, Natasha, my starlight, happy birthday, I love you, your my bestest friend forever and I wish you the best of birthday because I mean, I'm here so of course it'll be fun" She rolls her eyes "Get on with it Jay" "Okay okay, I got you presents and our favorite chocolate, as long as you share with me" he explains "Your such a dork" She says hugging him again.
February 1994, Ohio
"Ready?" Marcus asks, they were going to dye Natasha's hair blue "Let's do it" She says and Marcus doesn't hesitate, he runs his hands through her red hair and she squints her eyes, scrunching her nose as she usually does and grabs Marcus' phone and takes a picture in the mirror saved as 'with the best friend❤'. "Your taking pictures of me now?" He says jokingly. "Hey! You posed for the picture you knew" She replies.
Marcus rolls his eyes knowing she's won "How did you get my password anyway?" He asks. "Your password has always been the day we met you idiot" She says once again winning.
June 1994, Ohio
Marcus and Natasha sat outside with Jason who was telling Captain America stories "So your telling me that a guy, a wimpy guy was turned into a 6'2 guy with giant muscles" Marcus asks. "Marc I'm telling you, I was born a few years after he passed but my father served with him as a howling commando" Jason explains.
"I don't believe you, also do you got money? We want ice cream" Jason rolls his eyes and coughs up a few dollars "Thanks pop" the two walk to the ice cream shop a few minutes away, Marcus orders his favorite, vanilla and sprinkles "such a child" Natasha says and Marcus scoffs holding a hand to his chest faking a hurt expression "You wound me sunshine" he says, she chuckles grabbing his hand and running off.
"I want a ride" She says referring to his flight powers "You got it" Marcus picks her up easily and flys through the sky with Natasha screaming to slow down "Stop! Stop! Jay!"
December 1994, Ohio
"Here" Marcus gives Natasha the matching necklaces he saved up for Christmas. "Because your my sun in the sky and I'm your knight in the storm, I got these for us"

April 1995, Ohio
"So I know we're young, especially you but Alexei approved. So Natasha, ho to our school dance with me please?" Marcus asks cockily smiling, he holds out a sign 'Dance please?' She looks around pretending to debate "Come on Sunshine" He pleaded and She nods shrugging her shoulders "Okay" "Yes!"
The school applauds with also some laughs "Thank you, thank you!" Marcus yells through the crowd keeping Natasha close.
The day of the dance Jason helped Marc get ready with his suit on as he tied his tie for him. "Now go be a kid" Jason says kissing his cheek, he smiles and turns to leave to the car Alexei was picking him up in. When he sees Natasha his eyes light up "Woah, you...look..." speechless "Amazing" He finishes and Natasha chuckles "Thank you Jay, you don't look bad yourself".
The ride in the car isn't long but Marcus could feel Alexei's eyes on him while he holds Natasha's hand.
When Alexei drops them off he holds Marc back for a second "You take care of her yeah?" He whispers "I got her Lex" He pats his back "Good" Marc smiles and walks into the school.
Inside the play 1975's Fooled around and fell in love- Ervin Bishop "May I have this dance?" He asked Natasha "Yes you may" and through the night that's how It went, just him and her.
