finally, we were here. great britain's hockey team for the iihf world championship had just landed in finland, and i was among them.

many people were shocked that a girl could play on the mens team, but i had been preparing for this my whole life. if i met the standards, why shouldn't i play with them?

we were staying at a hotel, though we didn't have a huge break before our first game which was tomorrow. i took my time resting up to make sure i was fully charged for the game.

once game time came, i was the most prepared i had ever been. our warm ups were the same. all throughout warm ups i could hear some of the guys on the latvia team chirping me. scratch that, it was more like yelling and degrading.

i ignored them, my teammates just encouraged me to use it to fuel the fire, and so i did just that.

game start, puck drop, and i was off. i zoned in on a latvia guy near the boards with the puck so i sped up and body checked him down to the ice, successfully gaining the puck back for our team.

i passed to my teammate who had an open lane and bam! 1-0. the cheers in the stadium were loud and full of excitement. we celebrated and i happily glanced around the stadium at all the fans. it was cheesy but they were the reason i kept doing this.

as the game continued on, the latvia guys got tougher on me. i only did it back, but their checks and trips were getting worse. around halfway through the last half the second i had possession of the puck. the score was 2-2 and i had the chance to bring us back in the lead.

that was until some guy came out of the right side and up-checked with his stick, shoving me to the ground. the whistle had blown but i saw red. i picked myself back up and dropped my gloves, swinging my fist at the guy.

"you wanna try that again mother fucker?" i asked, angry. he laughed like an idiot would and dropped his gloves, punching back.

the stadium cheered and yelled as we punched at each other. he gripped at my jersey trying to punch me. other teammates started to join in. referees were trying to pull us apart but we were both to stubborn and angry to give up.

he pushed me over, my back making contact with the ice. i kept punching, refusing to give up out of spite. i hadn't even noticed how close someone's skates were to my face until i felt something sharp slice across my cheek.

the refs finally pulled the guy off of me, clearing a way for me as blood dripped from my cheek. i got up of the ice and skated towards our bench.

"y/n you good?" my teammates asked. i just nodded, letting the trainer lead me back to where the first aid supplies were kept.

fortunately the cut wasn't too deep, so i didn't need stitches or anything. the cut was cleaned and a large bandaid was placed over it. sadly our coach told me to sit out the rest of the game.

i stood by the bench for the rest of the game. we won 3-2 so we were all celebrating. after the hand shake we left for the locker room, ecstatic with our first win at worlds.

*mo's pov*

a couple of my teammates had suggested we go watch the first game of the day, great britain vs latvia, so here we were, sitting in our seats at the rink.

when the players lined up one the ice they started announcing the starters.

"y/n l/n." the announcer said. my eyes widened in shock as i looked over at my teammates beside me.

"that's a girl!" i exclaimed. they were just as surprised as me. how was a girl playing on a mens team?

as the game started, i couldn't take my eyes off of her. she was so physical throughout the game and i was amazed.

during the second period a fight broke out between her and a latvia player. she wasn't very big compared to this guy, but she fought back.

i took my eyes away for one second to say something to my teammate, but once i looked back i saw her skating off the ice with a trainer.

"what happened?" i ask, confused. "i dunno, but there was blood." someone responded. i sat in my seat shocked. i'd never known a girl to play so physically and tough. i knew i needed to talk to her.

*y/n's pov*

after a crazy celebration in the locker room and a quick shower to freshen up, i found my way out of the locker room with a couple of my teammates. we were laughing and joking around as we made our way to the exit of the arena.

one of my teammates stopped in his tracks causing me to bump into him.

"what the hell man?" i asked as i pushed away from him. "sorry," he apologized, "but isn't that moritz seider?" he asked. i peered around his body to confirm. it was in fact the rookie defenseman for the red wings.

"um yea it is." i say, somewhat shocked. i made eye contact with him and he smiled, gesturing for me to come over to him.

"and he wants to talk to you." my teammate said, wiggling his eyebrows. i shoved him as i walked past him, mumbling a "piss off."

i stood in front of mo, nervous as to why he wanted to talk to me.

"hey, i'm mo." he introduced himself, holding out his hand for me to shake. "i'm y/n," i say with a smile, shaking his hand.

"i watched the game, you did amazing. i mean, i've never seen a girl play like that... not that that's a bad thing! you looked really bad ass." he rambled. i giggled at his behavior.

"thank you, i'm glad i looked bad ass." i tell him earnestly.

"sorry, i wanted to talk to you actually... i was wondering, if you have time of course, if you maybe wanted to go on a date with me?" he asked nervously.

i nodded with a wide smile. "i'd love to mo."

he smiled too, "really? here give me your number we can talk about it more."

i typed my number into his phone and handed it back to him.

"i'm looking forward to it." i tell him. "i won't keep you any longer, looks like your teammates are still waiting." mo says. i nod and say goodbye, making my way back to my teammates.

"way to go y/n." one of them says smugly, nudging me with his elbow. i felt my face go hot as i started blushing.

"oh shut up."
