with the excitement of draft day finally wearing off, i finally had a chance to go and meet the whole team.

our first practice was in a couple of days, so it was probably a good idea for me to meet my new teammates before they're checking me into the boards.

the reaction to me being drafted was over all positive, which was somewhat shocking for the first girl in the NHL. of course, there were always people that were going to be assholes, but i wasn't focused on them or what they had to say. they didn't matter, i was just proud i had made it this far.

i met up with steve yzerman at the practice arena, and he helped with showing me around and getting me accustomed to everything.

he then led me to the locker room where my new teammates were. i entered with him, the chatter between the guys dying down as they saw me.

"boys, i want you to meet your new teammate, y/n. treat her as you would any other teammate." steve announced and left with a smile. i went around introducing myself to everyone and shaking a lot of hands.

there was one player in particular that made me freeze.

"hello, i'm moritz i'm excited to be playing with you." the tall brunette said. his smile was gorgeous and he had such a smooth accent.

"it's nice to meet you moritz," i finally choked out, "i'm y/n."

the next thirty minutes me and mo spent talking to each other. i don't know what it was, we just clicked. eventually we had to put our conversation on pause in order to prepare with the rest of the team. but i couldn't stop thinking about him.

*1 month later*

practices with the red wings had been going smoothly. i truly felt like i was part of the team, like i was always a part of this family.

today was just like any other. i arrived at the practice arena 45 minutes early like always. i grabbed my bag from my trunk and entered the building.

as i looked around it seemed unusually empty. by now a couple of my teammates were here and preparing, but today i didn't see anyone.

i brushed it off, assuming that others maybe got held back in traffic or something. i set my bag down in my stall and started to get ready.

by 30 minutes before practice i still hadn't seen anyone. i was all ready and just left the locker room, heading towards the ice. maybe i had missed something? maybe i was actually late?

as i reached the ice i saw only one person out there skating. moritz.

"hey mo!" i yelled, skating towards him.

"y/n!" he smiled upon seeing me.

"where is everyone? did i miss something?" i asked him, wondering if he knew anything.

"uhh... i'm not sure. maybe traffic or something.i haven't seen anyone either." he muttered. i just shrugged.

"maybe, it's just weird. usually dylan or joe get here before me. i'm glad your here though." i nudged his shoulder. he chuckled, but once he stopped he seemed deep in thought.

"hey mo, something wrong?" i ask him, wondering if everything was okay.

"actually i need to ask you something." he said, his eyes meeting mine.

"what's up?" i respond.

"i've just been thinking about it a lot recently, and i remember when you got here for the first time. remember how we talked for so long they practically had to yank us away to start practice?" he asks. i giggle at the memory, remembering dylan yelling at us to brake it up and start warming up.

"we'll ever since then i haven't been able to stop thinking about you. i know we're teammates and friends, but i wanna be more than that. so, if you want to, y/n would you be my girlfriend?"

i stood in shock at his confession. i remembered all the time we had spent together this past month, how he always made me feel welcomed, always checked in on me, always invited me places. i liked mo, a lot.

"i would love to mo." i smiled, and his smiled grew.

"you'll be my girlfriend?" he asked excitedly.

"of course i will." i told him.

he placed a hand on my cheek and brought his lips to mine, kissing my softly and sweetly. it felt perfect, like this was always supposed to happen.

"finally!" a voice yelled, making a both jump and break apart. at the entrance to the rink stood the rest of our team. they skated out to us, while we stood there embarrassed.

"we thought you two would never get together. we all decided to not show up and see what would happen. looks like mo finally grew a pair." tyler joked, nudging mo's shoulder.

i blushed, looking around at my teammates.

"you all planned this?" i asked accusingly.

they all nodded, making me and mo laugh.

"i can't be too mad, it worked." i said, smiling as mo wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"but no lovey stuff at practice." dylan warned.

we both nodded, but as the others started to skate away mo snuck a kiss to my cheek.

"no promises."
