The only one that keeps me sane

Bath time

Phil had been putting it off for a while now. He just didn't know if Dan would be excited or upset. Giving Dan a bath was like spinning a wheel everytime. Dan would either go willingly, super excited to play with his toys and bubbles or he would whine and be difficult about it not wanting to stop whatever he was doing.

Phil took a breath and walked into the playroom hoping to find a happy Dan playing. Which he did, he walked over to the closet and pulled out a onesie and fresh diaper. Dan watched as his daddy did these things, trying to think about what was going to happen next.

" Daddy I don't need changing?" Dan said looking up from his coloring and at Phil who had just gotten what he needed from the closet.

" I believe you baby, but that's not why I'm getting these things." Phil was a little nervous by the confused expression on Dan's face. He got a feeling this wasn't going to be an easy bath.

" You're having a bath soon and I'm just getting things ready for after." Phil looked at Dan. Knowing he couldn't push the bath another day he hoped Dan would be excited.

" But daddy I don't wanna bath right now." Dan said pouting.

"Well baby sometimes we have to do things we don't like, if you're good and come willingly I'll let you pour in the bubbles." Phil said trying to somewhat brib Dan into the bathroom. Dan nodded still pouting putting his arms up wanting to be carried. Phil lifted him up and walked to the bathroom.

He plugged the tub once the water was warm enough but not too hot. Next he undressed Dan and handed him the bubbles.

" Okay princess, when daddy say stop you gotta stop pouring we don't wanna waste it or put to much." Phil said not wanting a bubble disaster. Dan started pouring slowly which Phil was very pleased with.

"Okay baby that's enough." Phil said giving Dan a moment to stop pouring which thankfully he did. Soon there were lots of bubbles, but then Phil had to get Dan in the bath. Which turned out to be harder than expected.

"Okay let's get in the bath!" Phil said trying to be as cheerful as possible.

"Daddy, don't wanna" Dan mumbled not moving from his seat on the toilet lid. Phil had feared this would happen. Eventually with a bit of coaxing he got Dan into the bath.

"Toys daddy?" Dan questioned with the most innocent look on his face.

"Okay princess, only a few though. This is a bath to get clean more then to play." Phil told him. Dan pouted a bit but then saw Phil bring over the basket and got excited.

"Choose 3" Phil said holding out the basket. Dan took a moment to pick the perfect toys, choosing a glittery pink duck, a glittery blue octopus, and a random boat. Dan played with his toys and Phil was relieved. He finished washing Dan's body and hair. Then he had to get Dan out of the tub which was proving to be harder than expected.

"Come on love, we need to get out the bath so we can get ready for ninis time." Phil said expecting Dan to jump up, but he didn't.

"Dan baby, you hear me? Bath times all done, time for ninis" Phil said this time looking straight at Dan who looked back at him with what appeared to be sad eyes.

"Daddy, wanna play" Dan said pouting and going back to whatever make believe world he had come up with.

"Okay baby, you can have five minutes then it's outta the bath." Phil signed, he set the timer on his phone and watched Dan. It was later then normal as he was expecting it to be a quick bath, it was not proving to be though. The timer went off and Dan looked up with puppy eyes, in attempts to get more time, but Phil shot back a stern look.

" It's time to get out, you've had five minutes. Now come let daddy dry you up and get you ready for bed." Dan got up out the tub and Phil wrapped him up in a towel kissing his wet hair making Dan giggle. He did there nightly routine, getting Dan in a fresh diaper and onesie then reading a story. The bath gone better than Phil expected, to say he was relieved was an understatement.
