I wake up at 5 the next morning, hearing a faint conversation coming from the kitchen. I stop when I hear unfamiliar voices, and my name is mentioned in Hazel's voice. "Fine. I'll take the opportunity later, but we need Cyrus to trust me first, okay? Give me a chance to do my work. If we charge in now, it'll only bring harm to you two, mom, dad." I heard Hazel's voice ring out, numb in tone.

I got a ping from the System, telling me she was lying. For one, she has the influence meter. She literally couldn't betray us. Secondly, if the System was telling me she was lying, then I have to trust that she's lying to them.

Regardless, I narrow my eyes, and quickly find Hazel's room, where Kara was bunked. She was still knocked out cold, but I shook her awake. "I'm really sorry to wake you up, Kara, but Hazel's having a conversation with her parents in the kitchen. We need to pack and run again." I heard the front door slam, the conversation in the other room having ended, clearly. Kara's eyes widen, and Hazel sneaks back into the room to see me talking with Kara.

"Explain." I say shortly. Can you blame me for being a little paranoid still? She pales, and spills everything. "This was all set up. This whole situation with me. I was supposed to be a spy, to try and bring you guys in subtly, without either of you two noticing. I was lying to them. I was reluctant to spy in the first place, and I really don't want to hurt Kara, and hurting you means hurting her. I bought us some time so we can pack and leave. We need to go. Now." She blurts out.

I took a moment for that to set in. She was betraying her family for us. That was huge for her.

"How about this? I know we shouldn't completely trust you, but there is one factor that plays in your favor. You're important to our mission, and what I showed you last night was proof of it. You can come along, but one wrong move..." I reluctantly say, Force Lightning crackling along my hands for effect.

"Understood, Cyrus. I'm sorry I didn't tell you two from the start. I thought it was better off. I do know one thing, though I lack much further information, if this helps at all." Hazel hesitates. I motion for her to continue, and she glances at Kara. "Cyrus isn't the only one who the government was after. They were gonna take Kara in, too, though I don't know why." My eyes widen, and glance at Kara, then back at Hazel.

"Are you sure? This is either an insane coincidence, or Fate making the three of us meet, if that's the case." I ask. I mean, to be fair, what else can explain my powers? The Force also has the whole destiny thing that comes with it. It's like the world's weirdest, most extreme bundle deal. Hazel nods, and I sigh, closing my eyes to think for a moment. "What if we find out why they were planning on taking her in, when we inevitably conquer?" I think aloud.

"We can think about that later. Let's get packed. Get only what we need from here." Hazel presses. Fifteen minutes later, we were packed and ready. We were walking out the door with our bags when we heard a car door slam, revealing two men and a woman, aiming guns at us.

I summon my vibroblade, and Kara quickly does the same. I size them up, and imagine my surprise when I saw a certain Dillon Truman, his hands shaking as he pointed his gun at me. I raise my eyebrow, and he takes a step back, and shakes his head, gesturing subtly at the two agents at his sides.

The other two agents were very clearly Hazel's parents. They looked too similar to her to be anyone else, really, and the man's words just proved as much. "Sorry, Hazel, sweetheart, but I'm afraid, after some new intel came in, that we can't trust you to spy for us, either. We're gonna need you to set down your weapons and come with us, or we'll be forced to open fire on the three of you." Hazel's father said, his voice telling how bitter he was about having to threaten his daughter.

My only thought at 'new intel' was "How do they know?" That really bothered me. Something was wrong. Very wrong.

"Really? You're gonna threaten your own daughter? She's been nothing but kind to myself and my other friend here, and I'm almost certain she's shown similar kindness to you two. Does she really deserve that?" I ask, feigning calm as I think through Truman's gestures. Either that he's on our side, or the two of them forced him to spill on what happened, if not both.

He'd been motivated by his family before, so what if he's betraying his colleagues to keep himself and his family safe? Call me optimistic, but I'm willing to believe he's enough of a family man to try and protect them at any cost, given our first interaction.

"We don't have a choice." Hazel's mother stepped up, not nearly as fazed about threatening her child as her husband seemed to be. "You see, this is once again proving your whole system is corrupt. You don't have a choice? She is your daughter. I'll drop my weapon, and I assure my friend here will, too, but I'll have you know, my hands are much more dangerous than any sword I can make." I stall, using Stasis to freeze the two agents as I finish.

"Truman, I really hope you value your family's safety enough to not fire at us. I'd much rather not hurt Hazel's family, and I know you don't want to hurt your colleagues, either. Just stall them for a while. Cuff them to their beds, or something. They're gonna be in a stasis for a good fifteen minutes, and you're gonna need time to lock them up and get away. Just run. You can get away from all this. Flee to Canada or something. Goodbye, Dillon. Thank you, and have a good life." I explain quickly, grabbing the keys to their car, dumping all of the unnecessary items out from their car.

"Hazel, Kara, c'mon. We've gotta go. Now. Get in the car. Let's go." I shout grimly. That shocked them into action. They quickly filed into the car, and I started it up and pulled away, the last sight of Hazel's home that we see being that of Dillon Truman lugging the two agents in, with rope, handcuffs, and tape.

Holy moly guys. I'm noticing better and better rankings on this story by the week. Thank y'all so much. I figured I'd update again, since I had this chapter written, and I just needed to edit it.

I'm super excited because my final day for this school year is confirmed, as of now, to be the 26th of this month, so this upcoming Thursday. I'm psyched to be out for the summer soon. My 18th birthday's coming soon, too. June's gonna be either super busy, with sparse updates, or very boring, and probably quite a few updates. We'll see on that.

Anyways, I hope y'all have a great morning/day/afternoon/evening/night, wherever and whenever you may be reading this. Thank you guys again!
