"abi!" niall was whining and zayn could hear it through the baby monitor. zayn sat up and rubbed his eyes as he swung his legs off his bed and stretched. He yawned and moved over to the toddler's room without even pulling on a shirt or his socks on. when zayn entered the room, niall was just chewing on his little fingers, standing up inside his crib.

"what's wrong, blondie?" zayn asked as he pulled his son out of his crib and kissed his head. zayn smiled when niall just pressed his cheek against zayn's shoulder. "my sweet boy. what would you like to eat this morning?" he asked as he carried the boy over to his room.

"wan pancakes!" niall giggled and stuck his thumb in his mouth. he moved to shut his balcony doors and then locked them for a safe measure. he shut his bedroom door as he left the room as well and he carried niall over to the living room.

"well... let's make you some pancakes then." zayn kissed his head once more and rubbed his back, setting him down on the couch and turning on cartoons for niall to entertain himself until breakfast was ready.

so zayn made breakfast for the two of them. niall couldn't stop giggling because abi didn't make the pancakes like jidda did. but he still liked them and that's what was what mattered.

around midday zayn had gotten a call from his mumma and she had said that she would be stopping by. she was bringing a present for niall that she said he would absolutely love. a few hours after he heard a knock at the door. he was only smiles when he opened it up. niall hanging on his leg, "mumma! it's nice t-" he was cut off when he noticed the face of the man at the door.

that brown eyed bastard was standing there with his hands shoved in his pockets. niall frowned and tried to hide behind his father, that certainly wasn't his grandmother, and he had no clue who it was. "zayn?" the boy tried, how did this guy know his abi? zayn went to shut the door but the man only held it open with one hand and a foot propped between the door and the latch. "baby, it's me."

"i know who you are, and i told you to leave me alone three years ago, didn't i?" zayn snapped which in turn caused niall to flinch. zayn took a quick look down at him and then gently pushed niall to his other leg just to make sure liam couldn't see him. "now excuse me, will you leave? i'm waiting on my mum."

"is that..." liam stared at zayn, his eyes getting softer. zayn only panicked.

"no, he's mine, but he isn't yours." zayn struggled with saying the right words and then he glanced at niall. "babe, why don't you go paint for a little while. abi will be back to help you in a bit."

"jidda?" niall pouted because he was expecting a present from his jidda, zayn just ushered him on.

"he is mine, isn't he zayn?" liam muttered, still not believing that he'd helped create that lovely baby.

"i told you no, now go. i'm not letting you in and I'd rather not have you outside of my door when my mum gets here." zayn frowned, waiting for the other to remove his foot from his doorway.

"is he my kid?" liam stared at him and zayn was quiet, "so i guess that's my answer."

"stop trying to ruin what i built up. we've been fine without you these past three years and we don't need you now." zayn pushed up his glasses and went to shut the door again, "leave, my mum is coming and i don't want you here at all."

"i live next door with my boyfriend." liam pointed out, "i just knew you were pregnant... when we split... and i wanted to see my kid. after all, you changed all your numbers."

"just leave us alone, okay?"

"zayn... you can't keep me from seeing him."

"i can if i don't want you to see him."

"i'll take you to court, and darling, living in a place like this with your child tells me you haven't got much of an income."

"you live here." zayn challenged.

"i live here, yes, but only because my boyfriend lives here." liam looked at him and zayn's expression was unreadable, "just let me see him once... before your mum gets here." liam suggested and zayn thought for a moment, he looked liam up and down and sighed, opening the door.

"niall, c'mere." zayn sighed and the toddler peeked his head out of his room, giggling behind his dummy.

"his name is niall?"

zayn stayed quiet and niall giggled as he brought his painting to his abi. "hey blondie." zayn whispered, pulling the boy up to his hip. "aw that's beautiful. i love it." zayn smiled as he looked at the painting and then he kissed niall's cheek. he continued to keep the toddler distracted as liam stood there, just watching the two of them. "why don't you go hang it on the fridge, yeah?" zayn smiled and sat niall down. him stumbling off to hang up his painting. zayn then turned back to liam. "there, you saw him, now go."

"does he know i'm his father?"

"he's three, liam." zayn shook his head. "seriously, leave." he said trying to push the door closed again, this time successfully.

when trisha finally got there, her and zayn had a long talk about liam. "he lives next door mum." zayn mumbled after a much needed rant about how liam had shown up and basically demanded to see niall.

"sweetheart..."

"i just want to keep him safe, i don't care about me anymore, mummy... he says he's got a boyfriend but he's a compulsive liar and i don't want niall getting hurt."

"i understand what you're trying to do my darling, but maybe you should consider letting him see niall for an hour or two a day, or a few hours a week or something."

"he wasn't there for three years. now he's just deciding he can just pop back in when he thinks it's convenient? he didn't try to contact us at yours, and he didn't try to come see him. he's talking bullshit and i'm really pissed because of it." zayn looked at his mum and sighed heavily. niall was taking his nap since he had tired himself out with his brand new toy train that jidda brought him.

"i understand, sonshine... but just think about it okay? just think about it." trisha kissed her son's head and tiptoed into niall's room, kissing his head and she brushed back his wispy blonde hair.

"you and pops are coming for dinner on saturday right?" zayn asked her once she had reentered the living room.

"of course we are, we aren't missing it. we'll probably bring along the girls as well."

"they're welcome here as long as none of them let liam inside."
