Now fully dressed, all I could do was wait for Connor downstairs in the dining room, unsure what would happen next. My mom quietly stepped in and out of the kitchen preparing breakfast. The smell of eggs, beans and chilaquiles filled the room, but even though my stomach was growling and begging me to feed it, I couldn't focus on that right now. I had to stay on guard.
We constantly exchanged stares between the two of us, though she stayed silent and only smiled and giggled, I knew exactly what was on in her mind, and I didn't want to hear it right now. She could be so embarrassing, but I guessed her reaction to what she had just seen was more than what I could have asked for it to be. She already knew I was gay, so it was probably not that big of a surprise to find me with a guy, even though she had never really seen me that close and personal with another guy before, except for Connor, but never like that. It wasn't the first time Connor had slept over at my house, but the first he had naked and in my bed with me.
As embarrassing for me as it was, I was more concerned about Connor. What would his reaction be to all of this be? As far as I knew, he wasn't gay, openly at least.
"Aren't you going to eat, Gordito?" My mom asked, setting a plate with food in front of me. "Or are you still full from the late night snack you had last night?"
"Ma!" Was she serious? "It wasn't like that!"
"Oh calm down, Bernardo." She laughed. "I'm kidding, and I didn't see anything, I swear."
How can she be so nonchalant about this?
She just seemed to laugh about it, which was honestly something I had to consider myself lucky for. If my dad had been the one who caught Connor and me together, then I would have been in trouble.
"Connor! Mijo!" My mom cried out when he walked down the stairs, running over and hugging him like she would have done earlier, had he not been in nothing but underwear. "It's been so long, hasn't it? My, how time has passed. Look at you, all grown up now. I hope Ben's bed wasn't too lumpy for you."
"MA!"
"It's good to see you too, Mrs. Alvarado." Connor said, acting as if nothing weird had ever happened earlier.
"Well then, how about joining us for breakfast?" She asked him.
"Oh, I'm sorry, but I can't," Connor correctly answered, "I really should get going. My folks will be wondering where I am."
Just as I was getting ready to show Connor out the door, and save him from any more embarrassment, my younger sister, Lucie, came down the stairs, with pajamas, bed hair and smelly breath. The look on her face when she saw we had company was priceless, but strangely a bit unsettling.
"Connor!" She yelled out, immediately recognizing him and making a 180 degree turn back up the stairs. "Dang it, Ben! Ugh!"
"Is she alright?" Connor asked.
"Oh, don't worry about her, mijo. She just has a little crush on you." My mom said out loud. "Looks like you have some competition there, Ben."
"MA!" Grabbing Connor's arm, I dragged him towards the front door. "Come on Connor, it's time to go."
Stepping out of the nuthouse I lived in, I walked him to his car, but he was hesitant to leave, obviously having something on his mind he wanted to tell me. I could see it in his face.
"Uh... we should probably talk about things..." I couldn't have agreed more. "You think maybe we could meet up later?"
"S-sure, just, you know, send me a text or something."
Was I really back to getting all nervous and jittery with him., after everything.
Even with Connor now gone, there were still a few problems I had to deal with, beginning with my mom, who was still giggling about the whole thing.
"Nothing happened." I explained, for the last time.
"Gordito, quit your worrying." She assured me, sitting down with me for breakfast. "I'm pretty sure I knew you two would end up together before you did."
"Que?" No way was that true. "Well... do you think we could not tell dad about this yet."
"You're secret is safe with me."
