The Nation of Purge

Prologue

It started when I was younger. I never had the best life growing up. It was alway violence and death. Kids fought all the time just because they had some new form of clothing or jewelry. Having anything new was just a death sentence, there was just no point in having it. I was around the age of seven when life started going to hell for me. I'm not gonna get too far ahead of myself right now. My mom and dad were what I thought at the time, were the happiest couple. Always hanging out with me, telling or reading stories, playing with toys, and watching kid shows with me. All the normal things your family would do with you around that age. But eventually that all changed in the worst way possible.

Fast Forward two years, I am now nine years old, and I just got back from school. The bus drops me off in front of my house and I walk inside. My mom greets me happily and I put my bag down on the floor in the family room. It was a nice March afternoon, the sun was out with a nice breeze. My mom was watching the news like she normally does while she cooks. My dad was still at work, and he normally doesn't come back until dinner. I grab a cup and I fill it with water. As I head to the table to sit down an announcement comes on TV. "In other news, Today is the First Ever Purge in the USA. The government wants us to inform everyone that tonight will be the start of what is to be an annual purge, and it will last for twelve hours. If you haven't bought any supplies we recommend you do it immediately. There will be a nationwide announcement for this special event at seven o'clock pm eastern time. We wish you all luck and let God be on your side tonight." the newscaster announces.

I look towards my mom confused on what the news was talking about, and I've never seen my mom look so scared before. It was as if she saw a ghost or a monster. "Mom?" I say then immediately my dad calls my mother. As my parents were talking I tried to listen in to the conversation. All I was able to hear was that my mom was worried and my dad just left work to go get supplies. I didn't know what any of this meant at the time. I was too dumb to know anything. Three hours had gone by and it was now 6:00 PM eastern time. My dad entered the house with window barricades, a gun, traps, and food. Immediately as my dad entered the house he began to barricade the windows with steel coverings, I watched as he set up. "Dad, what are you doing?" I was confused about what was happening. My dad looked at me scared and worried. "Nothing honey, it's nothing to worry about." my dad went back to work on the window, and it took him half an hour or so to finish. My mom went to the basement with food and snacks, it confused me cause it wasn't movie night. My dad began to set bear taps under each window and entrance to the house. I followed my mom to the basement and I sat with her on the couch as she turned on the TV to the news.

"It's only 15 minutes till the event. The New Founding Fathers have created this event to help America. People have figured out this event is called the purge. Sounds a bit scary." my mom changes the channel to Disney and we begin to watch. I could tell something was wrong with my mom. As I was about to say something my dad came downstairs with his gun. He sits on the couch beside me and the TV turns into an emergency announcement system, and it begins beeping loudly like an amber alert. A message reads on the screen: "This is not a test, this is your Emergency Broadcast System. Announcing the commencement of the annual purge sanctioned by the U.S. Government. Weapons of class four and lower have been authorized for use during the purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity and shall not be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime (including murder) will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Police, fire, and Emergency Medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. When the purge concludes. Blessed be our new founding fathers and America... A nation reborn.
