The Path to Heaven and Hell

(The Next Day)

after spending the rest of yesterday learning about where Chloe found her cross, and a part of the next clue, everyone soon got drunk, and Sully began talking about his cat, worrying about the cat as well, the morning, the four were getting over a hangover and were officially off to the church by nightfall, however, the nuns were still around, forcing the four to be careful

"Oh, great, nuns, why's it always got to be nuns", Nate asked

"Alright, let's just split up and figure out where the keys go, huh", Sully asked as everyone nodded their heads and split up, looking around the church, until something caught Ella's eye

"Nate, come take a look at this", Ella said as Nate walked over, Ella handed Nate a familiar-looking postcard, "look familiar",

eyeing the postcard, Nate pulled out a bag, filled with the postcards Sam would send him, and pulled out a similar one, both matched, not long after, Nate flipped the postcard over

"Never thought I'd be back in church, but this one's special, -S",

"Hey, Sully", Nate called out

"What", Sully asked

"...Nothing", Nate said, dropping the conversation

"You sure about that... you could've learned more about Sam", Ella asked

"I'm sure", Nate said

"Hey, guys, come here", Sully called out, moving a church pew back as the others gathered around, "look",

"JSE", Chloe read out loud, the four looking at the tile on the ground, "Juan Sebastian Elcano".

"The 18 were here alright", Sully said

"Look, if that's the cathedral, then these must be the stairs", Nate said, pointing at the grooves of the stone, "and they lead... that way",

following the marked arrow, it pointed them toward another room, making their way over and down the stairs, the four were greeted with locked-up altars

"Thoughts, altar boy", Chloe asked

"Up here, Caelum, that's Latin for heaven", Ella stated, pointing her flashlight up at the words, "the journal says, "Trust in your fellow man, for one shall go to heaven, the other to hell", so, if heaven's up there, then hell has to be around here somewhere",

everyone scattered, looking for the supposed entrance to hell

"Hey, I got a skeleton with angel wings, that's kinda between heaven and hell, right", Nate announced, pushing it in, the statue of Mary moving slightly

"Does Mary look a little off to you", Chloe asked

"Yeah", Sully said

"No way", Nate said

"Hey, come on, open it up", Sully stated, holding out bolt cutters for Nate to grab

"I'm not gonna do that, we're in a church, man, come on, have some respect", Nate stated

"Scared of a little old nun", Chloe asked, taking the bold cutters

"You haven't met Sister B, have you", Nate asked as Chloe cut the lock off and opened the gate, Nate soon turned Mary's statue, revealing a picture of hell behind her, "well, there's hell", two parts of the altar opened up, revealing keyholes

"Holy shit, you found them", Sully said

"Nate, lemme see the cross", Ella asked as Nate pulled out and handed Ella the cross, Chloe pulling hers out and both inserting them into the keyholes
