Wide green eyes observed the oncoming hoard of school students, nervousness prickling underneath her skin as she looked down at the sheet of paper in her hands.

Her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion as she tried to make out what was said on it in tiny letters and uncoloured boxes.

Why are American timetables so odd? And why is there like seven classes a day? She narrowed her eyes, trying to figure out how the classes could fit.

"If there's seven classes for an hour each, plus only one lunch break - which is stupid, then the total day hours of school is over seven hours," she rambled to herself, tugging on her school bag strap.

"But the school day is still six hours, how does this work?"

"Because the classes only last fifty minutes each, and lunch is half an hour," someone said, interrupting the foreign students rambling with a small laugh.

The redhead spun around to observe the new person. She had dark brown hair with matching brown eyes with an amused smile on her face.

"That's honestly stupid. Why not make it an hour per class so there's only five classes a day and two breaks. At least, that's why I did back in Australia," the ginger commented, throwing her paper to her side in annoyance.

"I'm honestly not surprised America is the one with the weird schooling system," she added, rolling her eyes. She hadn't heard much good about people from the country she had just moved to - but that didn't stop her parents from making the decision.

America doesn't even have free healthcare, and we moved here. For what?

"You're from Australia? That makes sense for your accent. I'm assuming you only recently moved here, cause I've never seen you before."

The teenager moved closer, picking the sheet of paper from the other's hand and gave it a once over. "You have History first with me. Warning, our teacher isn't the most fabulous one in the bunch."

"I was expecting at least one bitchy teacher, but why is it the history teacher?" The teen complained, crossing her arms over her chest.

She liked taking History class, and it disappointed there wasn't a good teacher for it.

"Ooh, someone swore," the unknown brunette declared, amusement flickering in her brown orbs.

The redhead nodded her head, grinning at the other before turning to face the building once again - internally judging it the size of it.

It really didn't need to be so big.

"I'm Eden. Eden Smith," the redhead greeted, figuring she'd be the first to reveal her name. "I have such a plain last name, I know," she joked, wiping her hands across her jeans.

She was definitely not prepared to get into the very building that'll hold her captive for seven hours a day, five days a week for the next few years until she graduated.

"I'm Elena, Elena Gilbert."

The brunette pulled out her free hand and gave a hand for the other to shake. The small ginger reached over and hesitantly shook the American's hand.

"Nice to meet you, Elena. Now, do you mind showing me the way to our History class? I don't want to become lost on the first day and have detention for it."

"We can't have that happen, can we?"
