That night, Hexi lay awake again, wide-eyed in the dark.
"Nothing else matters anymore."
He shuddered with emotion, chaos swirled in his every fiber.
Calm down, Lyriel said softly. What's wrong with you tonight, darling?
"I can't really believe it", Hexi said quietly, turning his head. He had not pulled the curtains closed. Stars glittered in the cold sky outside. "How did I NEVER realise that he was into me? How did he think I met someone else? How could I not see the signs, I do this all the time, why now?"
Lyriel chuckled. I would have never, in a million years, thought that you were so bad at this. Wasn't it obvious?
"Well if it was obvious, why didn't YOU say anything?", he replied almost angrily.
It's more fun to watch you figure it out by yourself.
"Granted. Are you enjoying yourself, watching me bang my head against the wall in embarassment?"
You're kind of cute when you blush.
"Shut up."
You shut up.
He could feel their smile. The warmth of familiar banter.
"Thanks for being there for me."
You bet. I'm gonna let you calm down a little now. Or do you want me to keep you company?
"It's fine. I'll be okay. Goodnight, my friend."
Goodnight.
He felt them leave with the familiar small pinch of fear and trust. They would always return. They had not only a friendship, but a pact. And right now it was actually nice to be alone with his thoughts. They were... a little strange tonight.
They kept wandering back to Malyck. His mischievous smile, his soft voice, the way his fingers were gliding through the pages of old books with a routine he had developed only such a short time ago. The same fingers sliding into his. Cool and smooth Sylvari fingers of sky blue. The memory of the touch alone was enough to let the hair on his neck stand up with excitement.
"Too many emotions", he mumbled and flung himself off the unmade bed. Maybe he could do something productive at least, anything to take his thoughts off the beautiful mysterious man sleeping across the hallway...
"Keep thinking about him, and you'll never sleep tonight", he whispered and flung open a window. The air outside was cooling down and smelt of autumn leaves and rain on earth and stone. Petrichor. Like Malyck. Damn.
Hexi groaned and chose to deliberately ignore the way his body reacted to his favourite smell. He turned away from the window and began picking up clothing he had thrown on the floor carelessly earlier. Folded it, put it back into his drawer. On top lay his pirate hat. Staja Falláda's hat. He grinned with memories. It really was nice to have your own room like this.
He stopped in front of the mirror, a shirt in hand. His eyes, iridescent with emotion earlier, were a normal green now.
He met his own gaze. "Malyck likes this", he told himself. "It's fine. Just stay like this." He breathed in and out like Adanna had taught him. Smiled. "Perfect."
Hexi continued to pick up his tarot cards and papers and piling them semi-tidily on his desk; he wouldn't bother with that in the darkness. He bent down to examine his potted plants.
"Hmm, you could use some water", he said to them and let his long fingers glide over the leaves. They were smooth like the leaves on Malyck's shoulder when he had put his arm around him at the beach...
