Ivys POV
I shifted uncomfortably in the front seat of Reggie's trans am as we made our way down the quiet streets of Derry heading for town square. I shrugged, nestling deeper into my winter coat as I tried my best not to look so awkward. "Thank you for inviting me" I smiled sheepishly, doing my best to break the awkward silence that plagued the car.
"Thank you for coming" he responded, I could see that he was trying to conceal a smile, and failing miserably. "Your mom is a really sweet lady." He continued, his focus staying on the road as we reached a hanging stoplight. I laughed a bit. I had left him alone with her when I went upstairs to retrieve my shoes and coat. I already knew before I left she would ask him questions seeing as she is the nosiest women I know. "Sorry if she gave you any trouble while I was gone." I giggled.
He shook his head. "She's no bother." My face l heated up at his words. It was so refreshing to be around a boy who wasn't a complete piece of shit for once. Before we had made the move to Derry I had been talking to a guy named James. He was quite the piece of work. He was never the nicest to me, always making negative comments about me. I had kept him around cause I thought maybe he'd change, I was sadly mistaken.
As I came out of my thoughts i watched Reggie put the car in park. Getting out he rushed his way to my side and opened the door for me, offering his hand so that I wouldn't fall on the ice as I got out. I blushed, taking his hand in mine. He held on as we made our way to the diners front door, the sound of the bell ringing over our heads catching the attentions of those inside.
He lead me over to the diners bar, pulling out two chairs for the both of us and taking a seat. "This is one of my favorite places. My ma used to bring me here every weekend as a kid to get ice cream Sundays." He said, a childish grin on his face. A waitress approached, a white apron tied around her green dress.
"Hey kiddo. You here for your usual?" The women asked sticking her pad and pen into her apron pocket. "No not this time. I'll take 2 hot chocolates though." He replied to the women, there conversation sounding as if she spoke with him often. The women smirked, looking over at me. "Ohhh I see what's going on." She chuckled. "Two hot chocolates." She called to the kitchen over her shoulder before walking away.
Once we got our drinks we sat and talked for what seemed like hours, laughing to ourselves as we warmed our hands against the mugs. Reggie had gotten up to go to the counter, ordering something I couldn't hear before he returned. Minutes later our server came back out with a to go box in hand, handing it to Reggie with a smile. He left a tip on the counter for her before grabbing my hand and leading me outside.
"I've got something to show you" he said letting go of my hand and taking off down the alley at the back of the diner. Looking around a bit confused I followed him hesitantly, unsure if following a boy into a dark alley was at all a good idea. Deciding against my anxious thoughts I continued, finding him standing near a pile of wooden pallets. 5 little kittens and a mother cat as well all ran in our direction from there hiding place, there feet leaving tiny imprints in the snow.
Reggie smiled as he noticed me standing there. "There strays. I feed them every time I come, I feel bad for them you know?" He said opening the to go box and setting it down in front of the animals for them to eat. My heart fluttered at the gesture, god I could just squeeze him. "That's so sweet" I cooed as I reached down to pet the chin of one of the small cats. "Don't tell anyone I told you that. I have a reputation to uphold" he said jokingly, playfully nudging my ribs with his elbow. "Oh cross my heart I would never" I giggled back sarcastically.
"You know I've never shown anyone this place before." He shrugged, his gaze settled on the ground instead of me as if he was nervous to say that. "Really? So that make me special right?" I question, my cheeks now burning from how much I had been smiling the entire time. He let out a quiet laugh. "I guess it does" he replied.
As we stood back up he turned to look at me, his face red, though I couldn't tell if it was from the cold or from embarrassment. Before I got the chance to process he had leaned forward and his lips met mine. I stayed still at first, to nervous to move thinking that I might ruin the moment but as his hands gripped onto the front of my coat pulling me closer I relaxed against him. His touch was soft and sweet, a hard contrast from his tough guy exterior and god the way the butterfly's went crazy in my stomach I couldn't help but smile against his lips.
As we pulled away from one another he didn't let go of my coat. I looked up at him, my smile making my cheeks ache at this point despite my great efforts to calm my face. "So you think we could do this again some time? " he checked, a funny comment to break the silence.
"Anytime"
